Real‐World Effectiveness and Safety of Tirzepatide in Type 1 Diabetes and Obesity: Impact on Glycaemia, Weight, and Cardiometabolic Risk Markers

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 10, Page 8836-8846, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of tirzepatide on glycaemia, weight, and markers of cardiometabolic risk in people with type 1 diabetes and obesity. Materials and Methods This retrospective cohort study compared 142 adults with type 1 diabetes (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2) initiated on tirzepatide against 50 age‐, sex‐ and BMI‐matched ...

Early Worsening of Diabetic Retinopathy Following Initiation of Hybrid Closed‐Loop/Automated Insulin Delivery Systems in Type 1 Diabetes: A Systematic Review and Structured Study‐Level Synthesis

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 10, Page 8878-8894, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Hybrid closed‐loop (HCL) systems achieve rapid, algorithm‐driven improvements in glycaemia in type 1 diabetes (T1D). Paradoxically, rapid improvement in glycaemic control is associated with early worsening of diabetic retinopathy (EWDR), a phenomenon established in the intensive insulin therapy era.

Age of Type 1 Diabetes Onset and Dementia Risk: A Swedish Nationwide, Register‐Based Cohort Study

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 10, Page 9134-9142, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims Individuals with Type 1 diabetes are at a higher risk of dementia compared to individuals without diabetes. Younger age at Type 1 diabetes onset has been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and higher mortality. This study aimed to determine whether younger age at Type 1 diabetes onset was also associated with all‐cause ...

Looking Beyond Glycaemic Control: Real‐World 12‐Month Cardiometabolic and Retinopathy Outcomes Following Omnipod 5 Initiation in People With Type 1 Diabetes

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 10, Page 9166-9177, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims To evaluate the real‐world effectiveness, safety, and tolerability of the Omnipod 5 hybrid closed‐loop system in adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) with a novel focus on cardiometabolic markers alongside diabetic eye disease and renal function. Methods A single‐centre, retrospective analysis of adults with T1D using Omnipod 5 was conducted.

Association of glycation gap with hypoglycemia CGM indices, diabetic complications, and quality of life in Japanese type 2 diabetes patients

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, Volume 17, Issue 10, Page 1794-1806, October 2026.
The difference between HbA1c and estimated A1c (eA1c) was defined as the GGap. The strong association of high GGap with CGM‐based hypoglycemic indices in type 2 diabetes is evident. The large GGap values, relying solely on HbA1c values during treatment, may increase the risk of hypoglycemia in patients with T2DM.
