Dynamic modulation of enhancer‐promoter and promoter‐promoter connectivity in gene regulation

open access: yesBioEssays
AbstractEnhancers are short segments of regulatory DNA that control when and in which cell‐type genes should be turned on in response to a variety of extrinsic and intrinsic signals. At the molecular level, enhancers serve as a genomic scaffold that recruits sequence‐specific transcription factors and co‐activators to facilitate transcription from ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Public education without proper compensation: An empirical argument for promotion and tenure reform to encourage public scholarship and academic citizenship

open access: yesJPHE
Institutions of higher education desire their faculty members to be high-quality researchers while also acting as engaged academic citizens who produce public scholarship.

The inclusion of Human Rights in humanitarian assistance. The difficult but necessary way between theory and practice

open access: yesDeusto Journal of Human Rights, 2017
With the end of the Cold War, one of the most important developments has clearly been the recognition of the universal value of human rights and of the need to effectively respect and promote them at all levels of international relations.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Getting promoted [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2001
Promotion is an active process. At the beginning of his or her academic career, the surgeon should begin planning for this process. Surgeons need to understand the promotion documents at their institutions and to have a timetable for achieving tenure at the appropriate time.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Practices of promoting cultural institutions on social networks: Trends and recommendations for children’s art schools

open access: yesУправление культурой
Taking into account the increased interest in social networks, confirmed by VTsIOM data for 2023 (86% of surveyed Russians who use social networks spend time on them almost every day), the article examines the communities of music and art educational ...
