Research of Event Pronoun Resolution
2011 International Conference on Asian Language Processing, 2011Event anaphora resolution plays an important role in discourse analysis. In comparison with general noun phrases, pronouns carry little information of themselves, resolving the event pronouns is a more difficult task. This paper proposes a machine learning-based framework for event pronoun resolution.

Two approaches to the problem of pronoun resolution are presented. The first is a naive algorithm that works by traversing the surface parse trees of the sentences of the text in a particular order looking for noun phrases of the correct gender and number.

Zero pronoun resolution in Bulgarian
Proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies - CompSysTech '11, 2011This paper introduces the problem "zero anaphora resolution" in Bulgarian. Different types of subject ellipses in Bulgarian are described. Rules for identification of clauses with zero pronouns in Bulgarian are proposed. The antecedent of the omitted pronoun is determined by combining morphological knowledge, syntactic knowledge and heuristic rules ...

An Empirical Study on Pronoun Resolution in Chinese
2004In this paper, we discuss how to identify three important features by our empirical observation – gender and number features of antecedent as well as grammatical role of personal pronoun, which have no overt mark in Chinese. Only a tagger with extended POS set and some special word-lists are used. Finally, We describe an implemented prototypical system

Demo of Antelogue: Pronoun Resolution for Dialogues
2009 IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing, 2009We present Antelogue, a novel pronoun resolution architecture for dialogues based on efficient filtering of potential antecedents through a simple look-up of information using existing resources (gender, number, NER, etc). Our system does not require large labelled datasets for training or complex handcrafted rules.

Chinese Zero Pronoun Resolution
ACM Transactions on Asian and Low-Resource Language Information Processing, 2019Chinese zero pronoun (ZP) resolution plays a critical role in discourse analysis. Different from traditional mention-to-mention approaches, this article proposes a chain-to-chain approach to improve the performance of ZP resolution in three aspects. First, consecutive ZPs are clustered into coreferential chains, each working as one independent anaphor ...

Hobbs’ Algorithm for Pronoun Resolution in Portuguese
2007Automatic pronoun resolution may improve the performance of natural language systems, such as translators, generators and summarizers. Difficulties may arise when there is more than one potential candidate for a referent. There has been little research on pronoun resolution for Portuguese, if compared to other languages, such as English.

Pronoun resolution and discourse models.
Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 1992Psychological investigations of pronoun resolution have implicitly assumed that the processes involved automatically provide a unique referent for every pronoun. We challenge this assumption and propose a new framework for studying pronoun resolution.

Portuguese Pronoun Resolution: Resources and Evaluation
2008Despite being one of the most widely-spoken languages in the world, Portuguese remains a relatively resource-poor language, for which only in recently years NLP tools such as parsers, taggers and (fairly) large corpora have become available. In this work we describe the task of pronominal co-reference annotation and resolution in Portuguese texts, in ...

An algorithm for zero pronoun resolution in Bulgarian
Proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies, 2013This paper presents an algorithm for identifying the noun phrase antecedents of zero pronouns in Bulgarian. The algorithm applies to syntactic representation in XML format, generated by context-free grammar parser. Like the parser, the algorithm is implemented in Java.
