Semantic accessibility and interference in pronoun resolution
The general view in syntactic literature is that binding constraints can make antecedents syntactically inaccessible. However, several studies showed that antecedents which are ruled out by syntactic binding constraints still influence online processing ...

Optimizing algorithms for pronoun resolution [PDF]
The paper aims at a deeper understanding of several well-known algorithms and proposes ways to optimize them. It describes and discusses factors and strategies of factor interaction used in the algorithms. The factors used in the algorithms and the algorithms themselves are evaluated on a German corpus annotated with syntactic and coreference ...

The We‐Relationship as a Key to Addressing Dementia‐Related Ambiguous Loss
ABSTRACT Pauline Boss describes the challenges faced by people caring for family members with dementia in terms of ambiguous loss – a condition in which the physical presence of the person with dementia coexists with their psychological absence. This article proposes the concept of we‐relationship as a key to addressing dementia‐related ambiguous loss.

Discourse Prominence and Antecedent Mis-Retrieval during Native and Non-Native Pronoun Resolution
Previous studies on non-native (L2) anaphor resolution suggest that L2 comprehenders are guided more strongly by discourse-level cues compared to native (L1) comprehenders.

A machine learning approach to German pronoun resolution [PDF]
This paper presents a novel ensemble learning approach to resolving German pronouns. Boosting, the method in question, combines the moderately accurate hypotheses of several classifiers to form a highly accurate one.

EM works for pronoun anaphora resolution [PDF]
We present an algorithm for pronoun-anaphora (in English) that uses Expectation Maximization (EM) to learn virtually all of its parameters in an unsupervised fashion. While EM frequently fails to find good models for the tasks to which it is set, in this case it works quite well.

Abstract The illegal wildlife trade represents a significant threat to biodiversity. Limited research has examined the illegal trade in succulents, plants characterized by their ability to store water in their leaves, stems or roots. The growing popularity of succulents has contributed to the emergence of illicit consumer practices.

Neural mechanisms of anaphoric reference revealed by fMRI
Pronouns are bound to their antecedents by matching syntactic and semantic information. The aim of this functional magnetic resonance (fMRI) study was to localize syntactic and semantic information retrieval and integration during pronoun resolution ...

Managing Competency‐Based Resistance in Video‐Mediated L2 Peer Feedback Sessions
Abstract Though there is growing empirical evidence on managing advice resistance as an institutional work of higher status party with superior epistemic knowledge domain (e.g., trainer) across diverse settings (e.g., supervision meetings), there is still a lack of research on how second language (L2) learners handle peer resistance in real time once ...
