Formal Barriers to Longest-Chain Proof-of-Stake Protocols

open access: yes, 2019
The security of most existing cryptocurrencies is based on a concept called Proof-of-Work, in which users must solve a computationally hard cryptopuzzle to authorize transactions ("one unit of computation, one vote'').

Analysis of Blockchain consensus mechanisms : Proof-of-Work vs Proof-of-Stake [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The objective of this thesis is to understand and evaluate the two popular consensus mechanisms of blockchain: Proof-of-Work (PoW) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS), especially in terms of their cost effectiveness.

Formal Analysis of a Proof-of-Stake Blockchain [PDF]

open access: yes2018 23rd International Conference on Engineering of Complex Computer Systems (ICECCS), 2018
Blockchain technology relies on consensus algorithms to resolve conflicts in Byzantine environments. New blockchain algorithms are rapidly designed and implemented without a properly conducted formal analysis and verification. In this paper, we conducted a study on Tendermint which is a proof of-stake consensus algorithm. We verified that the consensus

Translating whole‐genome doubling into precision medicine in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Whole‐genome doubling creates a WGD‐positive tumor state characterized by persistent chromosomal instability, karyotypic diversification, and cellular stress. These same biological pressures drive aggressive tumor evolution while exposing therapeutic vulnerabilities, providing a rationale for WGD‐informed precision medicine. Whole‐genome doubling (WGD)

From patient advocacy to patient‐driven research: Building active partnerships beginning at the bench to reach the bedside

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Research is strongest when conducted alongside patients, not just about them. Patient research organizations help integrate patient perspectives into research priorities, study design, and scientific meetings, leading to meaningful patient outcomes and development of relevant therapies.

Coin concentration of Proof-of-Stake blockchains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
This paper studies the concentration of block production in selected Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchains and finds evidence consistent with participants entering and leaving the consensus process, thereby changing the concentration level, but not with ...

Impact of Saving Attacks on Blockchain Consensus

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Blockchain consensus, which enables nodes on a peer-to-peer network to agree on the same ledger history, is the core element of blockchain systems. In many blockchain systems, a node chosen as a block proposer, in accordance with the consensus protocol ...

LaKSA: A Probabilistic Proof-of-Stake Protocol

open access: yesProceedings 2021 Network and Distributed System Security Symposium, 2021
We present Large-scale Known-committee Stake-based Agreement (LaKSA), a chain-based Proof-of-Stake protocol that is dedicated, but not limited, to cryptocurrencies. LaKSA minimizes interactions between nodes through lightweight committee voting, resulting in a simpler, more robust, and more scalable proposal than competing systems.

Disease Course After Anti‐CD20 Discontinuation in Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis—A Multicenter Long‐Term Longitudinal Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To describe long‐term outcomes after anti‐CD20 discontinuation in selected patients with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) who remained without subsequent disease‐modifying therapy (DMT). Methods We retrospectively analyzed data from four centers in Austria and Switzerland.

Progressive Parkinsonism in PPP2R5D‐Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT PPP2R5D‐related neurodevelopmental disorder (Houge–Janssens syndrome type 1) is a rare autosomal dominant condition characterized by macrocephaly, intellectual disability, and epilepsy. Progressive parkinsonism is an emerging adult phenotype that neurologists should be aware of since timely genetic diagnosis opens the door to disease‐modifying
