The Combined Effect of Obesity and Contraceptive Use on Pulmonary Embolism in Adolescent Females Residing in the United States

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Combined oral contraceptive (COC) use in obese adult women dramatically increases the relative risk of developing a pulmonary embolism (PE). The risk of a PE in obese adolescent females taking contraceptives is currently unknown. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect of body mass index (BMI) and contraceptive

Role of Initial Conditions and Meteorological Drought in Soil Moisture Drought Propagation: An Event‐Based Causal Analysis Over South Asia

open access: yesEarth's Future
The role of meteorological droughts and initial conditions (land and atmosphere) in soil moisture drought (SMD) propagation are not yet fully understood.

Characterization and propagation from meteorological to groundwater drought in different aquifers with multiple timescales

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology: Regional Studies, 2023
Study region: Zhanjiang City District, southwest of Guangdong Province, China, was selected as the case study area owing to its relatively frequent occurrence of droughts and groundwater overexploitation.

Measuring BGP Route Propagation Times [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Communications Letters, 2019
We present a methodology to measure the propagation time of BGP routes with BGP route collectors and beacons which accounts for the clock offset error between route source and destinations. We apply it to the RIPE RIS data set comparing 2012 and 2018, showing that the IPv4 route prefix reachability interval and the time to receive the preferred route ...

The Relationship Between Physical Activity and Left Ventricular Remodeling in Childhood Cancer Survivors Treated With Anthracyclines: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Anthracycline‐related cardiac remodeling precedes heart failure in childhood cancer survivors. The objectives of this study were to determine the relationships between patient‐specific factors, moderate‐to‐vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and cardiac remodeling.

A Reevaluation of Time Domain Reflectometry Propagation Time Determination in Soils

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, 2014
Time domain reflectometry (TDR) is an established method for the determination of apparent dielectric permittivity and water content in soils. Using current waveform interpretation procedures, signal attenuation and variation in dielectric media ...

Statistical Analysis of SF Occurrence in Middle and Low Latitudes Using Bayesian Network Automatic Identification

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
Spread-F (SF) is one of the most important types of the ionospheric irregularities as it causes ionospheric scintillation which can severely affect the performance and reliability of communication, navigation, and radar systems.

Exponential time propagators for elastodynamics

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids
We propose a computationally efficient and systematically convergent approach for elastodynamics simulations. We recast the second-order dynamical equation of elastodynamics into an equivalent first-order system of coupled equations, so as to express the solution in the form of a Magnus expansion.
