Proper orthogonal decomposition analysis of vortex shedding behind a rotating circular cylinder

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
Turbulence studies were made in the wake of a rotating circular cylinder in a uniform free stream with the objective of describing the patterns of the vortex shedding up to suppression of the periodic vortex street at high velocity ratios, λ. The results

Energy and Entropy in Turbulence Decompositions

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
The role of energy and entropy in the decomposition of turbulent velocity flow-fields is shown in this paper. Decomposition methods based on the energy concept are taken into account—proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and its extension bi ...

Detecting Loosening of Bolt‐Flanged Pipe Using Smoothed Pseudo Wigner–Ville Distribution: Digital Twin‐Based Approach Using Convolution Neural Networks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this paper, an integrated digital twin‐based fault‐diagnosis framework is proposed to detect bolt loosening in flanged pipe connections. The approach combines finite element‐based numerical modeling, experimental modal analysis, and advanced signal processing‐assisted deep learning to achieve reliable loosening detection under operational ...

Preconditioned dynamic mode decomposition and mode selection algorithms for large datasets using incremental proper orthogonal decomposition

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2017
In this letter, we propose a simple and efficient framework of dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) and mode selection for large datasets. The proposed framework explicitly introduces a preconditioning step using an incremental proper orthogonal ...

Multifidelity Proper Orthogonal Decomposition

open access: yes
This paper introduces a multifidelity formulation that reduces the computational cost of the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) of a high-fidelity model by leveraging data from cheaper, lower-fidelity models. POD is a prevalent technique for extracting a low-dimensional basis from training data to achieve subsequent dimension reduction or reduced ...

The 2‐D Orthogonal Packing Problem With Multiple Levels of Prioritization: A Spatial Optimization Perspective

open access: yesNaval Research Logistics (NRL), EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper addresses two‐dimensional orthogonal packing within a confined space, integrating bin packing principles with facility layout concepts to address scenarios in which items must not only fit but also be arranged according to spatial priorities.

Model Order Reduction Methods for Rotating Electrical Machines: A Review

open access: yesEnergies
Due to the rise of e-mobility applications, there is an increased demand to create more accurate control methods, which can reduce the loss in an e-drive system.

On the Application of Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) for In-Cylinder Flow Analysis

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is a coherent structure identification technique based on either measured or computed data sets. Recently, POD has been adopted for the analysis of the in-cylinder flows inside internal combustion engines.

Propagation of internal gravity waves: Optimal vertical discretisation and grid design based on numerical error analysis

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
An energy‐conserving discrete framework for the vertical discretisation of stratified ocean models is developed using internal gravity‐wave theory. A β$$ \beta $$‐indexed family of schemes is analysed through perturbation theory, revealing optimal parameter choices and grid designs that reduce truncation errors significantly.

Tailoring Laser Powder Bed Fusion and Post‐Processing Parameters for JIS SKD61 Tool Steels: Surface Roughness, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Laser powder bed fusion of JIS SKD61 tool steel is systematically optimized using a Taguchi design and ANOVA. Hatch spacing and layer thickness are identified as dominant parameters controlling surface roughness and tensile strength. Subsequent tempering at 600°C improves microstructural stability and mechanical performance, enabling high‐density SKD61
