Testing Symmetric Properties of Distributions [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Computing, 2008
We introduce the notion of a Canonical Tester for a class of properties on distributions, that is, a tester strong and general enough that "a distribution property in the class is testable if and only if the Canonical Tester tests it". We construct a Canonical Tester for the class of symmetric properties of one or two distributions, satisfying a ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Properties of Bayes Sequential Tests

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics, 1981
Consider the problem of sequentially testing composite, contiguous hypotheses where the risk function is a linear combination of the probability of error in the terminal decision and the expected sample size. Assume that the common boundary of the closures of the null and the alternative hypothesis is compact.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Property-Based Testing for Cybersecurity: Towards Automated Validation of Security Protocols

open access: yesComputers
The validation of security protocols remains a complex and critical task in the cybersecurity landscape, often relying on labor-intensive testing or formal verification techniques with limited scalability. In this paper, we explore property-based testing

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Micromechanical testing and property upscaling of planetary rocks: A critical review

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mining Science and Technology
Knowledge of the mechanical behavior of planetary rocks is indispensable for space explorations. The scarcity of pristine samples and the irregular shapes of planetary meteorites make it difficult to obtain representative samples for conventional ...

The Painlevé Tests, Bäcklund Transformation and Bilinear Form for the KdV Equation with a Self-Consistent Source

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2012
The Painlevé property and Bäcklund transformation for the KdV equation with a self-consistent source are presented. By testing the equation, it is shown that the equation has the Painlevé property.

Advances in CALIPSO (IIR) cirrus cloud property retrievals – Part 1: Methods and testing [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics
In this study, we describe an improved Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO) satellite retrieval which uses the CALIPSO Imaging Infrared Radiometer (IIR) and the CALIPSO lidar for retrievals of ice particle number ...

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...
