Early postoperative outcomes of intraperitoneal funnel mesh for parastomal hernia prevention in robotic radical cystectomy: A retrospective feasibility study

open access: yesIndian Journal of Urology
Introduction: Although robotic and open cystectomies have similar parastomal hernia (PSH) rates, the robotic approach offers perioperative advantages.

Feasibility and Limitations of the Advanced Replica Process for Bioactive Glasses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Periodic 3D‐printed Kelvin‐cell templates enable a controlled advanced replica process for fabricating highly porous glass lattices. Across P45K9, 45S5, and 13–93, material‐dependent differences in coating, burnout, and shrinkage lead to distinct strut morphologies, while comparable final porosities of 83%–88% are retained.

High‐Entropy Alloy Interlayers Toward Advanced Joining for High‐Performance Structural Applications: Current Progress and Emerging Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
HEA interlayers offer a versatile route for joining high‐performance structural materials. Their compositional and structural design regulates interfacial reactions, suppresses brittle IMCs, and improves metallurgical bonding. Sandwich interlayers further integrate defect healing with precipitation strengthening, enabling improved strength–ductility ...

Safety and efficacy of prophylactic onlay resorbable synthetic mesh with a comprehensive wound bundle at laparotomy closure in high-risk emergency abdominal surgery: an observational study

open access: yesWorld Journal of Emergency Surgery
Background There has been a slow uptake of wound bundles and prophylactic mesh augmentation (PMA) strategies despite evidence supporting their role in reducing burst abdomens and incisional hernias (IH).

Effects of Mg on Microstructure and Solidification of a Hypereutectic Zn–8 wt.%Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An appreciable set of results involving thermal data, microstructure, chemical composition, and microstructural growth laws is reported for ZnAlMg alloys. Such results demonstrate that ZnAlMg alloys have high potential for applications in automotive self‐lubricating components, batteries, and electrical systems.

Enhancement of the Through‐Thickness Electrical Conductivity of Carbon‐Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Using Large Graphite Particles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
To enhance through‐thickness conductivity without sacrificing impregnation, large spherical graphite particles are intentionally employed in a low‐viscosity resin. Unlike finer conductive fillers, these particles remain outside the fiber bundles and accumulate in resin‐rich interlaminar regions during molding.

Prophylactic mesh placement in stoma formation surgeries: A preventive strategy against parastomal hernias

open access: yesJournal of the Pakistan Medical Association
Dear Editor,  Surgical incisions are the cornerstone of any successful operation, providing access to internal tissues and organs. The choice of incision has both short- and long-term consequences for the patient, including their recovery time and ...

3D‐Printed Titanium Gyroid Scaffold Structure Integrated With Tough Hybrid Materials for Cartilage Replacement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a potential device design for joint cartilage replacement. Silica‐polytetrahydrofuran (SiO2‐PolyTHF) hybrids with customizable mechanical properties were developed to mimic the characteristics of a natural meniscus. These were synthesized through a two‐pot sol–gel hybrid process.

The Role of Ultra‐Thin Passive Films and Organic Adsorbates on Aluminum Chips for a Friction‐Induced Solid‐State Recycling Process

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Despite benefits to storage stability and handleability of aluminum scrap, octadecyl phosphonic acid (ODPA) SAMs reduce the tensile strength of wires produced using friction‐induced recycling. Etching and methyl diphosphonic acid (MDPA) coatings, however, have little effect.

Prophylactic biological mesh reinforcement during ileostomy closure surgery evaluated by the image-based deep learning model for the prevention of stoma-site incisional hernia: phase II study protocol for a single-centre, prospective, randomised controlled clinical trial

open access: yesBMJ Open
Background Prophylactic ileostomy plays a critical role in the radical resection of low rectal cancer, but the incidence of stoma site incisional hernia (SSIH) after stoma closure remains high.
