An inexpensive instrument to measure the dynamic response of standing trees to wind loading

open access: yes, 2005
A relatively inexpensive caliper type strain-gauge transducer was developed for measuring the dynamic behavior of tree stems and branches subjected to wind loading.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Multiaxial Low Cycle Fatigue Life of Sn-8Zn-3Bi Solder under Non-proportional Loading

open access: yes, 2017
This study describes evaluation of multiaxial low cycle fatigue life of a lead-free solder, Sn-8Zn-3Bi. Strain controlled multiaxial low cycle fatigue tests under proportional and non-proportional loading conditions were carried out using a hollow ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Proportional Loading Behaviour of Sand Under Multiaxial Stresses

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 1995
A study of sand deformation under proportional loading under generalized stress conditions is presented. The loading includes a variety of stress paths in which the principal axes of stresses have a constant inclination to the axes of the vertically water deposited specimens.

Evaluating shakedown under proportional loading by non-linear static analysis

open access: yes, 2003
A lower bound method for calculating shakedown loads under proportional loading by static non-linear finite element analysis is presented. Stress fields obtained by static analysis and stress superposition are substituted into Melan's lower bound ...

Fatigue Property of Additively Manufactured Ti-6Al-4V under Nonproportional Multiaxial Loading

open access: yesChinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2021
The low cycle fatigue strength properties of the additively manufactured Ti-6Al-4V alloy are experimentally investigated under proportional and nonproportional multiaxial loading.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Algorithm for Non-Proportional Loading in Sequentially Linear Analysis

open access: yesProceedings of the 9th International Conference on Fracture Mechanics of Concrete and Concrete Structures, 2016
Sequentially linear analysis (SLA) is an alternative to the Newton-Raphson method for analyzing the nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete and masonry structures. In this paper SLA is extended to load cases that are applied one after the other, for example first dead load and then wind load. It is shown that every nonlinear analysis step can be made
