Dynamic proptosis can be defined as exophthalmos occurring when a variable force is applied to the orbital contents. In a series of 26 patients (13 males and 13 females, 1 to 82 years old), the causes of dynamic proptosis included neurofibromatosis (nine cases), fistulas (three cases), malignancies (three cases), meningoencephaloceles (two cases ...

PURPOSE Despite the paucity of supporting data, it has generally been held that proptosis in thyroid eye disease (TED) may provide relative protection from compressive optic neuropathy (CON) by producing spontaneous decompression.

Epibulbar Rhabdomyosarcoma Without Proptosis
Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, 1977Orbital rhabdomyosarcoma presenting as a localized, epibulbar mass is unusual, but common enough for the clinician to be aware of it. Although there has been a recent trend toward simple biopsy followed by irradiation and chemotherapy, cases presenting in this manner may sometimes be managed by total excision with preservation of the globe, follwed by ...

PATHOGENESIS OF UNILATERAL PROPTOSIS
Acta Ophthalmologica, 1977A series of 34 patients presenting with unilateral proptosis has been studied in order to evaluate the mechanism of proptosis. It is observed that symmetrical (axial) proptosis is usually the result of generalised increase in intraorbital contents and occurs in thyroid disease and with intracranial lesions lying remote from the orbit.
