Propulsive Performances of Pulsed Detonations

Combustion Science and Technology, 1999
The propulsive potential of a reactive mixture that uses detonation as a combustion process is studied. An experimental set up is built up to determine the thrust and the impulse developed in single and multi-operating cycles by the detonation products of a reactive mixture contained in a cylindrical combustion chamber (CC).

Influencing Factors on Propulsive Performances of Water Droplets for Laser Propulsion

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 2010
A transversely excited at atmospheric pressure CO 2 laser operated at 10.6 μm and 5 μs pulse width was employed to ablate atomized water droplets for laser propulsion. The momentum was derived from the force sensor data. Experimental results indicated that coupling coefficient C m , specific impulse I sp , and internal efficiency η were increased ...

Propulsion and aerodynamic performance evaluation of jet-wing distributed propulsion

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2010
Distributed propulsion is the idea of redistributing the thrust across the drag producing elements of a vehicle. Our configuration has a modest number of engines with part of the exhaust flow vented from thick trailing edges of the wings to cancel the local profile drag and the rest of the exhaust flow providing thrust to cancel the induced drag and ...

Performance Matching of the Propulsion System

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1968
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The continuing requirement for weapon systems capable of efficient operation over a wide range of altitude, Mach number, and power setting emphasizes the importance of propulsion system off-design performance. This paper illustrates the effect of installation losses on this off-design performance and considers some

Performance of an aerospace plane propulsion nozzle

Journal of Aircraft, 1991
A novel inviscid and viscous analysis is provided for a nozzle that is used with a scramjet for thrust generation. The analysis is based on the theory of a two-dimensional minimum length nozzle with a curved inlet surface, where the flow is sonic or supersonic. Inlet conditions are prescribed and the gas is assumed to be perfect.

Prediction and Measurement of Propulsion System Performance

Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1974
The problem of predicting installed propulsion system performance for a specific configuration from isolated inlet, nozzle and airframe data, and from data for similar configurations is discussed. The degree to which element performance may be isolated from measurements made on an integrated propulsion system will be discussed.

Titan III propulsion system performance evaluation.

Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 1968
An acceleration- based procedure for accurate determination of propulsion system performance from flight daja is described in this paper. The procedure emplpys iteration techniques to achieve a weighted least-squares ("best") fit to all of the applicable flight data.

Analysis of bionic hydrofoil propulsive performance

2011 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation, 2011
Combined with the motion characteristics of turtles, a 2 degree-of-freedom periodic moving method is proposed for the single hydrofoil model of a hydrofoil propelled prototype. According to the hydrofoil hydrodynamic calculation formula, factors and motion parameters that affect thrust force produced by the hydrofoil are concluded.

Phoenix Landing Propulsion System Performance

45th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference &amp; Exhibit, 2009
The highly successful Mars Phoenix Lander utilized a unique (to extraterrestrial body landings) pulsed thruster approach to powered landing. The design, test and flight performance of this system will be summarized. Phoenix inherited its propulsion system design from the ill-fated Mars Polar Lander, MPL and addressed potential shortcomings in that ...

Measurement of propulsive power and evaluation of propulsive performance from the wake of a self-propelled vehicle

Bioinspiration & Biomimetics, 2006
Propulsive efficiency is a key indicator of propulsive performance, but it can be difficult to measure when the propulsion system is integrated into the vehicle body because the average rate of useful work done propelling the vehicle (Wu) and/or the average mechanical power expended propelling the vehicle (Pmech) is not known directly.
