Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Digital simulation of gas turbine steady-state and transient performance for current and advanced marine propulsion systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The research study focuses on the idea of simulation of an Integrated Full Electric Propulsion System. The simulation required the development of a gas turbine performance model that could predict the dynamic behaviour of the engine in response to a ...

Survey of highly non-Keplerian orbits with low-thrust propulsion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Celestial mechanics has traditionally been concerned with orbital motion under the action of a conservative gravitational potential. In particular, the inverse square gravitational force due to the potential of a uniform, spherical mass leads to a family

Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...

Techno-economic and environmental risk assessment of a turbo-electric distributed propulsion system on a blended wing body aircraft [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Constant rise of air traffic has caused the environmental impacts of aviation to be the subject of an unprecedented scrutiny. Organisations all over the world are setting targets for emission reductions that represent the technological potential for ...

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Displaced geostationary orbits using hybrid low-thrust propulsion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, displaced geostationary orbits using hybrid low-thrust propulsion, a complementary combination of Solar Electric Propulsion (SEP) and solar sailing, are investigated to increase the capacity of the geostationary ring that is starting to ...

Numerical study on hydrodynamic behavior of flexible multi-stage propulsion foil

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2021
To examine mechanisms of the high speed and efficiency of propulsion of aquatic animals and to apply the findings to the design of underwater vehicles, this study uses dolphins as an example. The motion of aquatic animals is divided into three stages for
