Servicing polar platforms using electric propulsion [PDF]
The future of space development has been examined in the context of the infrastructure necessary support it. It is concluded that the selection of propulsion systems for in-orbit transportation requires the development of general computer codes capable

Hydrodynamic propulsion of human sperm [PDF]
The detailed fluid mechanics of sperm propulsion are fundamental to our understanding of reproduction. In this paper, we aim to model a human sperm swimming in a microscope slide chamber.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Electric Propulsion System for a Maneuverable Orbital Vehicle [PDF]
This paper presents a proposed maneuverable orbital vehicle based on the International Space Station (ISS) equipped with electric thrusters. The vehicle makes use of an external site of the ISS (e.g., the Express Pallet) to host a detachable platform ...

Hybrid solar sail and SEP propulsion for novel Earth observation missions [PDF]
In this paper we propose a pole-sitter spacecraft hybridising solar electric propulsion (SEP) and solar sailing. The intriguing concept of a hybrid propulsion spacecraft is attractive: by combining the two forms of propulsion, the drawbacks of the two ...

We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

A near term pole-sitter using hybrid solar sail propulsion [PDF]
In this paper we investigate optimal pole-sitter orbits using hybrid solar sail and solar electric propulsion(SEP). A pole-sitter is a spacecraft that is constantly above one of the Earth's poles. Optimal orbits, that minimize propellant mass consumption,

A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.
