The role of the host—Neutrophil biology

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Neutrophilic polymorphonuclear leukocytes (neutrophils) are myeloid cells packed with lysosomal granules (hence also called granulocytes) that contain a formidable antimicrobial arsenal. They are terminally differentiated cells that play a critical role in acute and chronic inflammation, as well as in the resolution of inflammation and wound ...

Robust ab initio predictions for dimensionless ratios of E2 and radius observables. II. Estimation of E2 transition strengths by calibration to the charge radius [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Converged results for E2 observables are notoriously challenging to obtain in ab initio no-core configuration interaction (NCCI) approaches. Matrix elements of the E2 operator are sensitive to the large-distance tails of the nuclear wave function, which converge slowly in an oscillator basis expansion.

The Biomaterial and Blood Clot Complex: A Crucial Early Environment for Osteo‐Coagulo‐Immunomodulation and the Advancement of Bone Biomaterials

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
Various properties of bone biomaterials can modulate components of the blood clot (including the fibrin network, red blood cells, platelets, and the complement system) in vivo implantation, leading to the formation of a biomaterial–blood clot complex (BBCC) significantly impacting subsequent osteoimmunomodulation.

Europe's contribution to the evaluation of the use of systemic antimicrobials in the treatment of periodontitis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract This narrative review celebrates Europe's contribution to the current knowledge on systemically administered antimicrobials in periodontal treatment. Periodontitis is the most frequent chronic noncommunicable human disease. It is caused by dysbiotic bacterial biofilms and is commonly treated with subgingival instrumentation.

Calcium transients trigger switch-like discharge of prostaglandin E2 in an extracellular signal-regulated kinase-dependent manner

open access: yeseLife
Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is a key player in a plethora of physiological and pathological events. Nevertheless, little is known about the dynamics of PGE2 secretion from a single cell and its effect on the neighboring cells.

Inhibition of release of inflammatory in primary and cultured cells by a Chinese herbal medicine formula for allergic rhinitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
BACKGROUND - We demonstrated that a Chinese herbal formula, which we refer to as RCM-101, developed from a traditional Chinese medicine formula, reduced nasal and non-nasal symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR).

Induced Abortion After Previous Caesarean Section: A Scoping Review

open access: yesAustralian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Previous caesarean section (CS) is increasingly common among women undergoing induced abortion. Aims To map and analyse existing literature on abortion safety, outcomes and management in those with previous CS. Materials and Methods Four databases were systematically searched from inception to July 2024.

Endotypes in Immune Mediated Drug Reactions: Present and Future of Relevant Biomarkers. An EAACI Task Force Report

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drug‐induced immune reactions are an important burden for patients and health systems. They can be classified into immediate‐drug hypersensitivity reactions (IDHRs) and delayed‐DHRs (DDHRs) based on their phenotype. Drugs do not always behave as allergens and need to bind to proteins, forming adducts.
