Prostatic Urethral Leukoplakia with Prostatic Abscess
Scandinavian Journal of Urology and Nephrology, 2002We present a case of prostatic abscess and coexistent leukoplakia of the urethra in a 51-year-old man. He had been suffering from diabetes mellitus for 10 years and following cessation of high fewer, transurethral electrovaporesection was performed.

Prostatitis is a poorly defined group of syndromes with multiple causes, some of which are not yet determined. Although treatment of acute prostatitis is well defined and almost uniformly successful, chronic prostatitis, either of bacterial or undetermined etiology, remains a perplexing problem in both diagnosis and treatment.

Prostatitis and prostate cancer: Implications for prostate cancer screening
Urology, 2004Measurement of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels has become the most important single clinical test in the screening for prostate cancer. The possibility that prostatic inflammation (even in asymptomatic men) may substantially elevate PSA values is an important clinical problem, especially given the vagaries of prostate cancer ...

Prostate carcinoma is a growing concern in our aging society. While the disease often follows a indolent course, it is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in males. Prostate cancer screening is promising but remains unproven and controversial. The therapy of prostate cancer has changed little over the past 10 years.

We report here a 70-year-old man with prostatic malacoplakia which is an extremely rare disease. This diagnosis was obtained from histological examination by prostatic biopsy because the patient was suspected having prostatic cancer on digital examination.

Prostate cancer accounted for over 41,000 deaths in the United States in 1996. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening is capable of detecting prostate cancer and appears to detect cancers that are both clinically significant as well as organ-confined, and therefore potentially curable. The positive predictive value of PSA value has been increased by

▪ Abstract Over the last several years, the development of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing and technical refinements of anatomic radical prostatectomy have revolutionized the care of patients with prostate cancer. Serum PSA testing often allows early diagnosis of organ-confined prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer and chronic prostatitis
Current Prostate Reports, 2007Prostate cancer and chronic prostatitis are prevalent disorders in men. The cause of prostate cancer and chronic prostatitis is multifocal and diverse. Both disorders exhibit characteristic elevation of serum prostate-specific antigen, currently the primary screening test for prostate cancer.
