Discrete Action Control for Prosthetic Digits [PDF]
We aim to develop a paradigm for simultaneous and independent control of multiple degrees of freedom (DOFs) for upper-limb prostheses. To that end, we introduce action control, a novel method to operate prosthetic digits with surface electromyography ...

Use of Accelerometers in the Control of Practical Prosthetic Arms [PDF]
Accelerometers can be used to augment the control of powered prosthetic arms. They can detect the orientation of the joint and limb, and the controller can correct for the amount of torque required to move the limb. They can also be used to create a platform, with a fixed orientation relative to gravity for the object held in the hand.

Globally, the most popular upper-limb prostheses are powered by the human body. For body-powered (BP) upper-limb prostheses, control is provided by changing the tension of (Bowden) cables to open or close the terminal device. This technology has been around for centuries, and very few BP alternatives have been presented since.

A Coupled Piezoelectric Sensor for MMG-Based Human-Machine Interfaces
Mechanomyography (MMG) is a technique of recording muscles activity that may be considered a suitable choice for human–machine interfaces (HMI). The design of sensors used for MMG and their spatial distribution are among the deciding factors behind their

How Fast Is Too Fast? Boundaries to the Perception of Electrical Stimulation of Peripheral Nerves
Transcutaneous electrical stimulation is a promising technique for providing prosthetic hand users with information about sensory events. However, questions remain over how to design the stimulation paradigms to provide users the best opportunity to ...

Intuitive Control of a Prosthetic Elbow [PDF]
Many transhumeral amputees deplore the lack of functionality of their prosthesis, mostly caused by a counter-intuitive control strategy. This work is the first implementation of an automatic prosthesis control approach based on natural coordinations between upper limb joints and IMU-based humeral orientation measurement. One healthy individual was able
