DNA ligase LigE increases bacterial transformation with damaged extracellular DNA

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The DNA ligase LigE from the naturally competent Gram‐negative bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoaea increases transformation with cut extracellular DNA. This process is ATP‐dependent and relies on the catalytic activity of LigE; it also requires that LigE contains an intact periplasmic localisation sequence, indicating that ligE functions in the periplasm ...

Genome Sequences of Salisediminibacterium haloalkalitolerans 10nlg, Bacillus lonarensis 25nlg, Bacillus caseinilyticus SP, Pelagirhabdus alkalitolerans S5, Salibacterium halotolerans S7 and Salipaludibacillus aurantiacus S9 Six Novel, Recently Described Compatible Solute Producing Bacteria

open access: yesJournal of Pure and Applied Microbiology, 2017
Six novel Gram-stain-positive, rod shaped strains of bacteria designated as 10nlgT, 25nlgT, SPT, S5T, S7T and S9T which were isolated from marine ecosystems and soda lake from India, represents novel members of the family Bacillaceae. Apart from 10nlgT,

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Comprehensive RNA-Seq Data Analysis Identifies Key mRNAs and lncRNAs in Atrial Fibrillation

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2019
Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are an emerging class of RNA species that may play a critical regulatory role in gene expression. However, the association between lncRNAs and atrial fibrillation (AF) is still not fully understood.

The complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic analysis of Batillaria cumingi (Gastropoda: Batillariidae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2020
We determined the complete mitochondrial genome of Batillaria cumingi. The B. cumingi mitochondrial genome is 16,100 bp in length, comprising 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and two ribosomal RNA genes.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic
