Identification of protein tyrosine kinases with oncogenic potential using a retroviral insertion mutagenesis screen

open access: yesHaematologica, 2009
Protein tyrosine kinases form a large family of signaling proteins implicated in both normal and malignant cell signaling. The aim of this study was to identify protein tyro-sine kinases that can transform hematopoietic cells to growth factor independent

Tv-RIO1 – an atypical protein kinase from the parasitic nematode Trichostrongylus vitrinus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: Protein kinases are key enzymes that regulate a wide range of cellular processes, including cell-cycle progression, transcription, DNA replication and metabolic functions. These enzymes catalyse the transfer of phosphates to serine, threonine

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

The Role of Protein Kinases in Antigen-activation of Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells of Schistosoma mansoni Infected Individuals

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1997
T cell recognition of antigens displayed on the surface of antigen presenting cell results in rapid activation of protein tyrosine kinases and kinase C.

TOXICITY AND EFFICACY OF TYROSINE KINASE INHIBITORS IN COMBINATION WITH CHEMOTHERAPY IN PATIENT WITH RESISTANT Ph-POSITIVE ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA (CASE REPORT AND LITERATURE REVIEW)

open access: yesОнкогематология, 2017
A wide range of toxic complications of BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitors therapy due to non-targeted inhibition of other protein kinases. This is of particular importance in the treatment of patients with Ph-positive lymphoblastic leukemia, who receive,

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

The Shc1 adaptor simultaneously balances Stat1 and Stat3 activity to promote breast cancer immune suppression

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Tyrosine kinase signalling in cancer cells promotes immune evasion. Here, the authors show that tyrosine kinases engage scaffold protein Shc1 to promote immunosuppression in breast cancer by simultaneously activating STAT3 immunosuppressive signals and ...

Comparative analysis of plant immune receptor architectures uncovers host proteins likely targeted by pathogens. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: Plants deploy immune receptors to detect pathogen-derived molecules and initiate defense responses. Intracellular plant immune receptors called nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat (NLR) proteins contain a central nucleotide-binding (NB ...

Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.
