Integration of Serum Neurofilament Light Chain and Cortical Dysfunction Improves Diagnostic Accuracy in ALS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine whether integration of serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) and cortical dysfunction improves diagnostic accuracy in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) when applied alongside the Gold Coast criteria (GCC). Methods In this prospective study, 148 participants with suspected ALS were recruited (101 ALS and 47 with ALS ...

Bi‐ and Mono‐Allelic RFC1 Expansion in a North American Cohort With Idiopathic Axonal Neuropathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective RFC1 biallelic repeat expansion is increasingly recognized as a cause of chronic idiopathic axonal polyneuropathy (CIAP), but it remains challenging to know who to test. This study aims to determine the prevalence of biallelic and monoallelic RFC1 expansions and their corresponding neuropathy phenotypes in CIAP patients and identify ...

Changes in body weight and body protein with intravenous nutrition

Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, 1979
Body weight, protein, fat and water were measured before and after intravenous nutrition in 20 surgical patients. The group included both young and old patients who were suffering from a wide variety of catabolic illnesses and the period of intravenous feeding ranged from 11 to 40 days.

Refolding of Inclusion Body Proteins

2004
Genome sequencing projects have led to the identification of an enormous number of open reading frames that code for unknown proteins. Elucidation of the structure and function of these proteins makes it necessary to produce proteins fast, in high yields and at low cost.

Protein Bodies in Nature and Biotechnology

Molecular Biotechnology, 2013
Protein bodies are natural structures containing protein aggregates that exist in many organisms ranging from bacteria to mammals and plants. In bacteria they are often a phenomenon associated to over-expression of heterologous proteins. In mammals the so called Russell bodies indicate an accumulation of mutated immune globulins.

Changes in Body Protein, Body Potassium, and Lean Body Mass During Total Parenteral Nutrition

Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, 1982
Lean body mass by anthropometry (AMLBM), total body potassium (TBK), and total body nitrogen (TBN) by prompt gamma analysis, are reported in 38 malnourished patients during total parenteral nutrition. Over long periods (>2 months) TBN increased 32% while AMLBM and TBK rose only by 9.2 and 9.5%, respectively.

Oil Body Proteins

1995
Oil body boundary proteins (so called Oleosins) have been extensively studied and many investigations have dealt with their molecular characterisation [1,2]. These proteins are highly hydrophobic. Little work, therefore, has been carried out on their purification for chemical and physical studies.

Protein bodies in seeds

Nordic Journal of Botany, 1981
Membrane bound protein bodies (aleurone grains) are thought to be the main subcellular location of protein and mineral storage in seeds. In addition to structurally homogeneous proteinaceous matrix, protein bodies may contain protein crystalloids, electron–dense globoid crystals, electron–transparent soft globoids, and crystals of calcium oxalate ...

Protein quality in bacterial inclusion bodies

Trends in Biotechnology, 2006
A common limitation of recombinant protein production in bacteria is the formation of insoluble protein aggregates known as inclusion bodies. The propensity of a given protein to aggregate is unpredictable, and the goal of a properly folded, soluble species has been pursued using four main approaches: modification of the protein sequence; increasing ...

Solubilization and Refolding of Inclusion Body Proteins

2022
Expression of heterologous proteins in E. coli often leads to the formation of protein aggregates known as inclusion bodies (IBs). Inclusion body aggregates pose a major hurdle in the recovery of bioactive proteins from E. coli. Usage of strong denaturing buffers for solubilization of bacterial IBs results in poor recovery of bioactive protein ...
