Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

The role of Dicer protein partners in the processing of microRNA precursors.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
One of the cellular functions of the ribonuclease Dicer is to process microRNA precursors (pre-miRNAs) into mature microRNAs (miRNAs). Human Dicer performs this function in cooperation with its protein partners, AGO2, PACT and TRBP.

Identification of a protein responsible for the synthesis of archaeal membrane-spanning GDGT lipids

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
The cell membranes of many archaea contain characteristic membrane-spanning lipids known as glycerol dibiphytanyl glycerol tetraethers. Here, Zeng et al.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Interleukin-17 prevents oxidative stress from damaging osteoblast formation by inhibiting autophagic degradation of metallothionein-2

open access: yesEndocrine Journal
Interleukin 17A (IL-17A) is a key cytokine promoting osteoblast formation, which contributes to osteogenesis. IL-17A functions in autophagy inhibition within osteoblasts.

Global kinome profiling reveals DYRK1A as critical activator of the human mitochondrial import machinery

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Mitochondrial protein import is mediated by the translocase of the outer membrane (TOM), through which nearly all precursors traverse. Here, the authors perform global in vitro kinome profiling and by this identify that DYRK1A phosphorylates TOM70 and ...

Role of RNA Interference (RNAi) in the Moss Physcomitrella patens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
RNA interference (RNAi) is a mechanism that regulates genes by either transcriptional (TGS) or posttranscriptional gene silencing (PTGS), required for genome maintenance and proper development of an organism.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Rat Dlx5 is expressed in the subventricular zone and promotes neuronal differentiation

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2010
The molecular mechanisms and potential clinical applications of neural precursor cells have recently been the subject of intensive study. Dlx5, a homeobox transcription factor related to the distal-less gene in Drosophila, was shown to play an important ...

PI3K activation increases SDF-1 production and number of osteoclast precursors, and enhances SDF-1-mediated osteoclast precursor migration

open access: yesBone Reports, 2019
Our previous studies showed that in a mouse model in which PI3K-AKT activation was increased (YF mice), osteoclast numbers and levels of SDF-1, a chemokine, were augmented.
