Inhibition of Protein Kinases by Balanol: Specificity within the Serine/Threonine Protein Kinase Subfamily

Molecular Pharmacology, 1999
Balanol is a potent inhibitor of cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase and protein kinase C, acting competitively with ATP with an affinity 3000 times that of ATP. We tested the capacity of balanol to inhibit representative serine- and threonine-specific protein kinases from the protein kinase subfamily that shares a common conserved catalytic core with ...

Effect of Glucuronidation on the Potential of Kaempferol To Inhibit Serine/Threonine Protein Kinases

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2016
To study the effect of metabolic conjugation of flavonoids on the potential to inhibit protein kinase activity, the inhibitory effects of the dietary flavonol kaempferol and its major plasma conjugate kaempferol-3-O-glucuronide on protein kinases were studied.

Differential effects of flavonoids as inhibitors of tyrosine protein kinases and serine/threonine protein kinases

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1988
The inhibitory potencies of bioflavonoids on various tyrosine protein kinases and serine/threonine protein kinases were investigated. The phosphotransferase activity of an oncogene product, pp130fps, and a growth factor receptor, insulin receptor, were inhibited by myricetin, a derivative of quercetin.

Phosphorylation of Smad Signaling Proteins by Receptor Serine/Threonine Kinases

2003
Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) family members, which include TGF-βs, activins, and bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), elicit their multifunctional effects by binding to and complex formation ...

Identification of a Putative Target for Rho as the Serine-Threonine Kinase Protein Kinase N

Science, 1996
Rho, a Ras-like small guanosine triphosphatase, has been implicated in cytoskeletal responses to extracellular signals such as lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) to form stress fibers and focal contacts. The form of RhoA bound to guanosine triphosphate directly bound to and activated a serine-threonine kinase, protein kinase N (PKN).

Protein Kinase C and Its Interactions with Other Serine-Threonine Kinases

1997
Despite the diversity of platelet agonists, ranging from soluble molecules that bind to receptors on the platelet surface to shear stress (Kroll et al. 1993) and various artificial surfaces (Ware et al. 1991), the changes in platelet function that they induce are stereotypical. These include cytoskeletal reorganization (shape change), conversion of the
