The synthesis of antibodies and proteins
Clinica Chimica Acta, 1959Abstract It is demonstrated that proteins with antibody activity can be regarded as a homogeneous, immunochemically related system of components, despite their differences in electrophoretic behaviour and chemical composition. Other proteins with biological activity owe their specificity to typical sequences of amino acids in their peptide chains. In

Synthesis of Lipidated Proteins
Bioconjugate Chemistry, 2016Protein lipidation is one of the major post-translational modifications (PTM) of proteins. The attachment of the lipid moiety frequently determines the localization and the function of the lipoproteins. Lipidated proteins participate in many essential biological processes in eukaryotic cells, including vesicular trafficking, signal transduction, and ...

Variations of protein content and of the rate of amino acid incorporation into protein were studied for several cells types as a function of time. It was found that both characteristics displayed a definite periodicity. The evidence available suggests that this periodicity reflects the existence of a rhythm of protein synthesis.

Thiaisoleucine and protein synthesis
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1979Thiaisoleucine is an isoleucine analogue having the gamma-methylene group of the valerianic carbon chain substituted by a sulphur atom. It has been demonstrated that thiaisoleucine is activated and transferred to tRNAIle by rat liver aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase and inhibits isoleucine incorporation into polypeptides in protein synthesizing systems from ...

Methods for the chemical synthesis of proteins have advanced considerably over the past decade. In many instances, laboratory synthesis can now be considered a viable alternative to ribosomal biosynthesis, especially when custom modifications of a protein are desired; chemical approaches guarantee virtually unlimited and tunable variation of the ...

The synthesis of ribosomal protein
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1965Abstract The hypothesis that nascent R-RNA associated with neosomes forms the unit responsible for the synthesis of ribosomal protein leads to a number of self-consistent relationships. The RNA of a 70 s ribosome is long enough to act as template for six molecules of ribosomal protein.

Chemical synthesis of proteins
Chemistry & Biology, 1994Powerful new enzymatic and chemical methods for coupling unprotected peptide fragments are making the assembly of large synthetic proteins possible. By allowing the use of novel backbones and the incorporation of multiple unnatural amino acids at specific sites, these methods promise large expansion of the repertoire of protein molecules accessible to ...

Nature, 1961
A POSSIBLE relationship between the synthesis of induced enzymes and the formation of antibodies was suggested in 1900 by Dienert1. Compelling arguments2 have since accumulated to support this contention, but corroborative experimental evidence has not been forthcoming until recently.

Current Opinion in Chemical Biology, 1999
Since the mid-1990s, chemical synthesis has emerged as a powerful technique for the study of structure/function relationships in proteins. During the review period, the applicability of chemical protein synthesis techniques has been significantly broadened by increases in the size of synthetically accessible proteins through two new techniques: solid ...
