Toxic proteins inhibiting protein synthesis

Die Naturwissenschaften, 1972
Proteins which destroy various organisms are widely distributed in nature. Some of these proteins exert their toxic effect by inhibiting protein synthesis in a specific manner. Thus, Colicin E 3 kills susceptible bacteria by inhibiting ribosome function. It does this by splitting off a small fragment from the t6S ribosomal RNA thus inactivating the 30S

Intracellular aspects of the process of protein synthesis.

Science, 1975
The title of the Nobel Lecture of George Palade (1 August, p. 347) should have been "Intracellular aspects of the process of protein secretion."

Protein synthesis

2002
Abstract The genetic code is decoded in all living cells in two major *phases. First it is transcribed from the DNA into a specific messenger RNA (mRNA) molecule. This process is termed ‘transcription’. The code is then read from the mRNA molecule to produce the copy of the corresponding protein.
