Analysis of human immunoglobulin-degrading cysteine proteinases of Trichomonas vaginalis

open access: yes, 1995
Trichomonas vaginalis is a protozoan parasite that causes a widely distributed sexually transmitted disease (STD). Since immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies to specific trichomonad immunogens are found in serum and vaginal washes (VWs) from patients with ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Selection of cultivation medium for production of late stationary phase serine proteinases from Bacillus intermedius [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
B. intermedius have been shown previously to secrete two serine proteinases: glutamyl endopeptidase 2 and subtilisin 2 during the late stationary phase, with maximal levels of the enzymes activities recorded at the 40th and 44th hours of growth ...

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Collagenolytic enzymes from Antarctic hydrobionts: a promising biotechnological approach for accelerating purulent-necrotic wound healing

open access: yesУкраїнський антарктичний журнал
The objective of this study was to isolate the fractions of proteolytic enzymes from Antarctic hydrobionts, specifically Sterechinus neumayeri and Odontaster validus, and assess their wound-healing potential on purulent-necrotic wounds in rats.

Role of ADAM and ADAMTS metalloproteinases in airway diseases

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2009
Lungs are exposed to the outside environment and therefore to toxic and infectious agents or allergens. This may lead to permanent activation of innate immune response elements.

Characterization of cell envelope-associated proteinases of thermophilic lactobacilli

open access: yes, 2001
The proteolytic activities of two natural isolates of thermophilic lactobacilli, Lactobacillus acidophilus BGRA43 and Lact, delbrueckii BGPF1, and Lact. acidophilus CH2 (Chr.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Cysteine peptidases and their inhibitors in breast and genital cancer.

open access: yesFolia Histochemica et Cytobiologica, 2010
Cysteine proteinases and their inhibitors probably play the main role in carcinogenesis and metastasis. The metastasis process need external proteolytic activities that pass several barriers which are membranous structures of the connective tissue which ...
