Proton beam therapy induces protective immunity via HMGB1-dependent signaling

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
Proton beam therapy is widely regarded for its cost-effectiveness, precision, and protection of normal tissues. Emerging evidence shows that conventional radiotherapy can inhibit primary tumors and promote immunogenicity of distant tumors, possibly via ...

Proton irradiated graphite grades for a long baseline neutrino facility experiment

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2017
In search of a low-Z pion production target for the Long Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) four graphite grades were irradiated with protons in the energy range of 140–180 MeV, to peak fluence of ∼6.1×10^

Proton Irradiation Effects on the Time-Dependent Dielectric Breakdown Characteristics of Normally-Off AlGaN/GaN Gate-Recessed Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor Heterostructure Field Effect Transistors

open access: yesMicromachines, 2019
In this work, we investigated the time-dependent dielectric breakdown (TDDB) characteristics of normally-off AlGaN/GaN gate-recessed metal−insulator−semiconductor (MIS) heterostructure field effect transistors (HFETs) submitted to proton ...

Reaction‐Time pH Stabilization by Poly(acrylic acid) with Ethanol‐Mediated Growth Control for Efficient Hydrothermal Sb2(S,Se)3 Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Poly(acrylic acid) acts as a reaction‐time pH buffer during hydrothermal Sb2(S,Se)3 growth through its COOH/COO‐ equilibrium. When combined with ethanol‐regulated growth, this buffering strategy reduces Sb‐O related surface disorder, improves local electronic uniformity and carrier collection, and increases the champion solar‐cell efficiency to 10.25%,

In-situ observation and atomic resolution imaging of the ion irradiation induced amorphisation of graphene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Ion irradiation has been observed to induce a macroscopic flattening and in-plane shrinkage of graphene sheets without a complete loss of crystallinity.

A study on initial formation stage of proton irradiation defects in reactor pressure vessel steel

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy
The irradiation effect of a reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steel subjected to the proton irradiation with a dose of approximately 1 dpa and an energy of 240 keV at room temperature is investigated using the internal friction (IF) method.

Magneto‐Ionic Devices With Polymer‐Based Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polymer electrolytes are introduced for magneto‐ionic devices based on hydroxide and hydrogen ions. The magneto‐ionic effect results in a pronounced voltage‐controlled variation of coercivity in both devices. The switching speed is in the range of 100 ms.

Radiation Retinopathy: Microangiopathy-Inflammation-Neurodegeneration

open access: yesCells
Purpose: Proton irradiation is used to treat choroidal melanoma of the eye. The impact on non-malignant retinal cells is currently understudied. Therefore, we here report a mouse model to investigate the impact of proton irradiation on the retina ...

Oxygen Evolution Electrocatalysts with Trinuclear, Mixed‐Valence Iron Motifs on Electronically Aligned Carbon Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Trinuclear iron oxo‐bridged catalytic ensembles stabilized by aspartic‐acid‐derived carbon dots provide an effective platform for alkaline oxygen evolution. Mixed‐valence charge balancing, inner‐sphere charge transport, and work‐function alignment within the N/O‐rich carbon framework promote cooperative Fe‐site chemistry and efficient OER ...
