Triplet state magnetic resonance and fluorescence spectroscopy of metal-substituted hemoglobins.
Fluorescence detected magnetic resonance (FDMR) spectra detected at 596 nm of zinc-substituted hemoglobins at 4.2 K show a split D-E transition, which is not observed for zinc protoporphyrins ligated by methylimidazole in glasses.

Hepcidin levels predict response to iron therapy and support route selection for iron therapy in patients with active inflammatory bowel disease: higher levels favour IV iron, while lower levels indicate likely oral response. Ferritin‐based indices, particularly transferrin/log10(ferritin) and sTfR/log10(ferritin), offer reliable alternatives. ABSTRACT

Summary Background Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by severe phototoxic reactions that occur within minutes of light exposure. In clinical studies, afamelanotide has been shown to prolong pain‐free sun exposure, improve quality of life, and reduce the frequency and severity of phototoxic reactions ...

Unraveling the active site cover of coproheme decarboxylase from Listeria monocytogenes
During heme biosynthesis in Gram‐positive bacteria, coproheme decarboxylase (ChdC) catalyzes the conversion of four‐propionate substrate coproheme to the two propionate product heme b. Its active site is universally covered by a flexible linking loop. This study identifies an important histidine residue, which stabilizes the loop in a ChdC homolog.

Zinc Protoporphyrin: A Metabolite with a Mission [PDF]
AbstractZinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP) is a normal metabolite that is formed in trace amounts during heme biosynthesis. The final reaction in the biosynthetic pathway of heme is the chelation of iron with protoporphyrin. During periods of iron insufficiency or impaired iron utilization, zinc becomes an alternative metal substrate for ferrochelatase ...

Pentatricopeptide repeat proteins coordinate nucleus‐organelle communication by modulating RNA metabolism within chloroplasts and mitochondria. This review highlights how they control critical processes like photosynthesis, seed development, fertility restoration, and stress survival in crops, and explores their potential as programmable tools for RNA ...

GmDOF3.1‐GmCPX Module Regulates Nodulation and Nitrogen Fixation Abilities in Soybean
ABSTRACT Soybean nodule nitrogen fixation is very important, which can provide a large amount of nitrogen supply for its own growth and that of other crops, but the mechanism is largely unclear. In the present study, a coproporphyrinogen oxidase gene, GmCPX, was identified to facilitate soybean nodulation and nitrogen‐fixation under the regulation of ...

Vestigial Plastids in Parasitic Plants: Evolutionary Remnants or Adaptive Innovations?
ABSTRACT Throughout the evolutionary history of plants, chloroplasts originating from a cyanobacterial endosymbiosis have undergone remarkable adaptation and specialization, giving rise to a multitude of plastid types. The evolution toward parasitism in plants represents a particularly extreme case of such specialization.
