Detonation Initiation by Annular Jets and Shock Waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The objective of this research is to experimentally determine the feasibility of initiating detonation in fuel-air mixtures using only the energy in hot, compressed air. The existing 6-inch shock tube at Caltech was used to create hot, high-pressure air

Reinforcing Calcium Overload via Inflammation‐Mediated Targeting to Amplify Pyroptosis and Antitumor Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A neutrophil‐membrane‐camouflaged nanoplatform (RC@NMVs) exploits tumor inflammation to target and accumulate in tumors. Intracellular Ca2+ overload is triggered via lysosomal CaP dissolution and Ru red‐mediated Ca2+ channel blockade, synergistically inducing gasdermin‐mediated pyroptosis.

Synthesis and analysis of jet fuels from shale oil and coal syncrudes [PDF]

open access: yes
The technical problems involved in converting a significant portion of a barrel of either a shale oil or coal syncrude into a suitable aviation turbine fuel were studied. TOSCO shale oil, H-Coal and COED coal syncrudes were the starting materials.

Self‐Assisted Charge Storage‐Release Mechanism Enabling Flexible Design of Biomimetic Triboelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by the mimosa, this study develops a flexible triboelectric nanogenerator with a novel microneedle array and battery‐mimetic architecture. The device introduces a spontaneous charge self‐regulation mechanism that confines the electric field below the air breakdown threshold, and achieves an outstanding charge density of 396.50 µC m−2 ...

Prevaporization and premixing to obtain low oxides of nitrogen in gas turbine combustors [PDF]

open access: yes
Tests were conducted to determine the effectiveness of prevaporization and premixing in reducing the formation of oxides of nitrogen in a gas turbine type combustor using liquid JP-5 fuel at the supersonic cruise condition.

MEOX1 Coordinates Autocrine‐Paracrine Programs via SPHK1/S1P to Promote Lymph Node Metastasis in Ovarian Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In ovarian cancer, MEOX1 activates the SPHK1/S1P pathway to promote both tumor progression and tumor–stroma crosstalk. MEOX1‐dependent signaling drives CAF activation, enhances VEGF‐C expression, and stimulates lymphangiogenesis, ultimately facilitating lymph node metastasis.

Antimisting fuel breakup and flammability [PDF]

open access: yes
The breakup behavior and flammability of antimisting turbine fuels subjected to aerodynamic shear are investigated. Fuels tested were Jet A containing 0.3% FM-9 polymer at various levels of degradation ranging from virgin AMK to neat Jet A.

Fracture zone tectonics, continental margin fragmentation, and emplacement of the Kings-Kaweah ophiolite belt, Southwest Sierra Nevada, California [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
The Sierra Nevada foothill met amorphic belt is a 450 km long assemblage of remnant continent-derived epiclastics, arc volcanics, pelagic-hemipelagic sediments, and ophiolite slices.

Mechanically Robust Biodegradable Stents With Theragenerative Vascular Responses via Combined 3D Printing and Janus Nanoengineering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces a theragenerative 3D‐printed biodegradable stent with Janus nanoarchitecture for spatially controlled vascular healing. A luminal tantalum ion–implanted surface accelerates endothelialization and hemocompatibility, while an abluminal sirolimus/poly‐L‐lactic acid–tantalum layer provides sustained drug release and suppresses smooth ...

A liquid helium target system for a measurement of parity violation in neutron spin rotation

open access: yes, 2009
A liquid helium target system was designed and built to perform a precision measurement of the parity-violating neutron spin rotation in helium due to the nucleon-nucleon weak interaction.
