Proximal Nephron

Comprehensive Physiology, 2013
Abstract The kidney plays a fundamental role in maintaining body salt and fluid balance and blood pressure homeostasis through the actions of its proximal and distal tubular segments of nephrons. However, proximal tubules are well recognized to exert a more prominent role than distal counterparts. Proximal tubules

Proximity as a service

2012 2nd Baltic Congress on Future Internet Communications, 2012
This paper describes a new possible model for distributing hyper-local data across subscribers. This new model uses Wi-Fi proximity approach as a service. According to this concept, any exiting or even especially created Wi-Fi hot spot could be used as presence sensor that can trigger access for some user-generated information snippets.

Learning in proximity

IEEE 10th International Conference on Cognitive Informatics and Cognitive Computing (ICCI-CC'11), 2011
In most articles about machine learning, particularly in reinforcement learning, a learning system interacts with an unknown environment and tries to improve its performance (receiving fewer penalties) according to feedback from environment as reinforcement signals. In this paper we show how a learning system can learn to interact with environment from

Proximal Algorithms

Foundations and Trends® in Optimization, 2014
This monograph is about a class of optimization algorithms called proximal algorithms. Much like Newton’s method is a standard tool for solving unconstrained smooth optimization problems of modest size, proximal algorithms can be viewed as an analogous tool for nonsmooth, constrained, large-scale, or distributed versions of these problems.

Proximal connectedness

Fundam. Informaticae, 2008
In this paper the authors investigate a notion of connectedness suited to apartness spaces. The theory of apartness spaces is an ongoing development by the same authors, and seems to provide a straightforward framework for doing topology constructively.

Distance and proximity

Neohelicon, 2010
In order for the value structure of a given culture to be established, a number of its constituents have to be pushed beyond its boundary by shaping an abhorring figure of its Other. The exteriorization of such a figure is a necessary operation of any identity formation.

On Proximity-Oblivious Testing

SIAM Journal on Computing, 2009
We initiate a systematic study of a special type of property testers. These testers consist of repeating a basic test for a number of times that depends on the proximity parameter, whereas the basic test is oblivious of the proximity parameter. We refer to such basic tests by the term Proximity-Oblivious Testers.

ProxImaL

ACM Transactions on Graphics, 2016
Computational photography systems are becoming increasingly diverse, while computational resources---for example on mobile platforms---are rapidly increasing. As diverse as these camera systems may be, slightly different variants of the underlying image processing tasks, such as demosaicking, deconvolution, denoising, inpainting, image fusion, and ...

Proximal Junctional Kyphosis and Proximal Junctional Failure

Neurosurgery Clinics of North America, 2013
Proximal junctional failure (PJF) should be distinguished from proximal junctional kyphosis, which is a recurrent deformity with limited clinical impact. PJF includes mechanical failure, and is a significant complication following adult spinal deformity surgery with potential for neurologic injury and increased need for surgical revision.

Dynamic Demonstration of Proximal Vergence and Proximal Accommodation

Optometry and Vision Science, 1991
ABSTRACT The complex interactions between accommodation and vergence have been described by dual interactive models which include influences of convergence accommodation and accommodative vergence. Using an SRI Eyetracker, we investigated changes in vergence and accommodation stimulated while looking through prisms or lenses, and ...
