Efficient term proximity search with term-pair indexes
Proceedings of the 19th ACM international conference on Information and knowledge management, 2010There has been a large amount of research on early termination techniques in web search and information retrieval. Such techniques return the top-k documents without scanning and evaluating the full inverted lists of the query terms. Thus, they can greatly improve query processing efficiency. However, only a limited amount of efficient top-k processing

Dynamic Permutation Based Index for Proximity Searching
2015Proximity searching consists in retrieving objects from a dataset that are similar to a given query. This kind of tool is an elementary task in different areas, for instance pattern recognition or artificial intelligence. To solve this problem, it is usual to use a metric index.

Evaluation of a risk index for advanced proximal neoplasia of the colon
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, 2015A clinical risk index that uses distal colorectal findings at flexible sigmoidoscopy (FS) in conjunction with easily determined risk factors for advanced proximal neoplasia (APN) may be useful for tailoring or prioritizing screening with colonoscopy. To conduct an external evaluation of a previously published risk index in a large, well-characterized ...

Index Tuning for Efficient Proximity-Enhanced Query Processing
2010Scoring models that make use of proximity information usually improve result quality in text retrieval. Considering that index structures carrying proximity information can grow huge in size if they are not pruned, it is helpful to tune indexes towards space requirements and retrieval quality. This paper elaborates on our approach used for INEX 2009 to

THE OSCILLOMETRIC INDEX PROXIMAL TO VASCULAR OCCLUSION
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1932To the Editor: —In reviewing oscillometric curves taken at various levels in cases of thrombo-angiitis obliterans as well as in cases of peripheral thromboses and emboli, and comparing these readings at corresponding levels in the unaffected limb, an interesting observation was made. It was noted that the oscillometric index at the point just proximal

On the use of proximity indexes for isolated word recognition
2013 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power Electronics and Computing (ROPEC), 2013An isolated word recognition system with a small dictionary may perform sequencial search, that is, compare the query utterance with each and every single one in the dictionary. However, when dealing with dictionaries made out of thousands of words, sequencial search is no longer a valid strategy since we would end up with such a slow recognition ...

Estimating Proximity of Metric Ball Regions for Multimedia Data Indexing
2000The problem of defining and computing proximity of regions constraining objects from generic metric spaces is investigated. Approximate, computationally fast, approach is developed for pairs of metric ball regions, which covers the needs of current systems for processing data through distances.

Proximity of supermarkets is positively associated with diet quality index for pregnancy
Preventive Medicine, 2004To investigate the association between distance to the closest supermarket and a composite measure of diet, the diet quality index for pregnancy (DQI-P) was constructed.Data from the Pregnancy, Infection and Nutrition (PIN) cohort, a prospective study of determinants of preterm birth, were analyzed.

Indexing inexact proximity search with distance regression in pivot space
Proceedings of the Third International Conference on SImilarity Search and APplications, 2010We introduce an inexact indexing scheme where, at index building time, training queries drawn from the database are used to fit one linear regression model for each object to be indexed. The response variable is the distance from the object to the query. The predictor variables are the distances from the query to each of a set of pivot objects.
