Prune harvest methods, costs: Comparative study made on efficiency of various types of labor-saving equipment used in 1954 prune harvest season

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1955
Harvesting 400,000 tons of California's fresh prunes—to make about 160,000 tons of dried prunes—requires an estimated total of 195,000 man-weeks of labor. Peak labor requirement in early September is over 30,000 seasonal workers in addition to family and

Peptide Sequencing With Single Acid Resolution Using a Sub‐Nanometer Diameter Pore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To sequence a single molecule of Aβ1−42–sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), the aggregate is forced through a sub‐nanopore 0.4 nm in diameter spanning a 4.0 nm thick membrane. The figure is a visual molecular dynamics (VMD) snapshot depicting the translocation of Aβ1−42–SDS through the pore; only the peptide, the SDS, the Na+ (yellow/green) and Cl− (cyan ...

TraNNsformer: Neural network transformation for memristive crossbar based neuromorphic system design

open access: yes, 2017
Implementation of Neuromorphic Systems using post Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) technology based Memristive Crossbar Array (MCA) has emerged as a promising solution to enable low-power acceleration of neural networks. However, the recent

Spatially Resolved Click Patterning of Dyes on Graphene for 2D Hybrids with Regiotunable Fluorescence

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Well‐structured graphene hybrid architectures featuring spatially resolved fluorescent properties represent a promising but so‐far elusive synthetic target. A robust and straightforward method for fabricating well‐organized graphene‐dye hybrid nanoassemblies through a combination of reductive patterning and conventional click chemistry is presented ...

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.

Reducing Open‐Circuit Voltage Losses in Wide‐Bandgap FAPbBr3 Perovskite Solar Cells for Continuous Unassisted Light‐Driven Water Splitting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The combination of formamidinium thiocyanate and 1,3‐propane diammonium iodide for bulk and top‐surface passivation, and a ternary fullerene blend to improve energy band alignment, suppresses energy losses in wide‐bandgap FAPbBr3 perovskite solar cells.

Pruning

open access: yesAtla Summary of Proceedings
This paper presents practical lessons that I learned while preparing, conducting, and reviewing a significant pruning project at Colorado Christian University (CCU) between 2018-2024. I will first share some details about CCU and its library collection, provide a definition for “pruning,” and then share practical lessons I learned in the past few years
