Establishment of Genetic Transformation in the Sexually Reproducing Diatoms Pseudo-nitzschia multistriata and Pseudo-nitzschia arenysensis and Inheritance of the Transgene [PDF]
We report the genetic transformation of the planktonic diatoms Pseudo-nitzschia arenysensis and Pseudo-nitzschia multistriata, members of the widely distributed and ecologically important genus Pseudo-nitzschia. P. arenysensis and P. multistriata present the classical size reduction/restitution life cycle and can reproduce sexually.

The effects of inorganic and organic nitrogen supply on the growth and domoic acid (DA) production of Pseudo-nitzschia cf. seriata and Pseudo-nitzschia calliantha from Bizerte Lagoon (SW Mediterranean Sea) were studied during field and laboratory experiments. Nitrogen enrichments (40 µM NO3 (-); 10 µM NH4 (+); 20 µM CH4N2O) and a control, with no added

The genus Pseudo‐nitzschia contains potentially toxic species of problematic taxonomy, making it one of the most intensively studied diatom genera. The study of 35 clonal strains isolated from the Bilbao estuary, an area that experiences recurrent blooms of Pseudo‐nitzschia, revealed the presence of two new species, P. abrensis and P.

Rare interspecific breeding in Pseudo-nitzschia (Bacillariophyceae)
Phytotaxa, 2015The biological species concept defines species based on sexual incompatibility between strains and the F1 sub-viability or inviability. However, to date, there is only a limited number of studies that formally deal with sexual incompatibility in unicellular protists and hence the rigorous application of biological species concept is fuzzy in these ...

Abstract Lipid class and fatty acid compositions of stationary phase cultures of the toxic diatoms Pseudo-nitzschia multiseries and P. pungens were determined. The lipid class compositions of both diatoms were similar, with phospholipids, triacy1glycerols and acetone-mobile polar lipids as the major classes.

Interspecific plastidial recombination in the diatom genus Pseudo‐nitzschia
Journal of Phycology, 2015Plastids are usually uni‐parentally inherited and genetic recombination between these organelles is seldom observed. The genus Pseudo‐nitzschia, a globally relevant marine diatom, features bi‐parental plastid inheritance in the course of sexual reproduction.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Pseudo-nitzschia multiseries (Baciuariophyta)
Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2015Pseudo-nitzschia multiseries belongs to Baciuariophyta, which can produce the neurotoxin known as domoic acid, a toxin that can cause amnesic shellfish poisoning in human beings. The research aspects mainly focus on its toxicity and diversity. However, there is no mitochondrial genome information about P. multiseries.
