Passionvine Mealybug, Planococcus minor (Maskell) (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae)

open access: yesEDIS, 2012
The passionvine mealybug was discovered in the continental U.S. for the first time in southern Florida a little over a year ago. USDA, APHIS lists it as a high priority threat. Given its polyphagous nature, this pest should be given careful attention in a new area such as Florida, which has an important agricultural sector and amenable climate.

Climate Change Drives the Distribution of Insect Vectors for GLRaV‐3 on a Global Scale

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
The distribution range of seven insect vectors of GLRaV‐3 were predicted by MaxEnt model. Thermal conditions were a vital factor constraining the potential distribution ranges of all vector insects. Centroid shifts suggested that the potential distribution range of soft scale will move northward under climate change. Our study provides implications for

“The Last of Them”: Entomopathogenic Effect of Akanthomyces muscarius on the Scale Insect Pest Toumeyella parvicornis Under Laboratory Conditions, a Potential Biological Control Candidate

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 177, Issue 5, September/October 2025.
ABSTRACT Entomopathogenic fungi are valuable alternatives to traditional agrochemicals, providing more sustainable crop protection. Akanthomyces spp. is acknowledged in biocontrol practices, especially in controlling aphids, thrips, whiteflies, and mites; however, its efficacy on soft scale insects is still poorly known.

Positive Selection Drives Mitochondrial Gene Rearrangement in Sternorrhyncha (Insecta: Hemiptera)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
We have constructed the largest mitochondrial dataset for Sternorrhyncha to establish phylogenetic relationships. The mitochondrial genes of Coccoidea and Aleyrodoidea exhibit a notable prevalence of translocation and a high proportion of positive selection pressures.

Laboratory survey on biological and demographic parameters of Cryptolaemus montrouzieri (Mulsant) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) fed on two mealybug species

open access: yesJournal of Crop Protection, 2015
Biological and demographic parameters of the mealybug ladybird, Cryptolaemus montrouzieri (Mulsant) were evaluated on citrus mealybug, Planococcus citri (Risso) and obscure mealybug, Pseudococcus viburni (Signoret) under 24 ± 2 ºC, 80 ± 5% relative ...
