Ear Piercing Complications: Comparing Cartilage and Soft Tissue Piercings in a Large Survey Cohort

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Cartilage ear piercings were associated with significantly higher complication rates than lobule piercings and remained an independent predictor of complications after multivariate analysis. Cartilage site also independently predicted piercing removal, with higher removal rates observed compared to lobule piercings.

Laparoscopic Methylene Blue Photodynamic Therapy for Intraabdominal Infection: A Preclinical Feasibility Study in a Rabbit Model of Perforated Appendicitis

open access: yesLasers in Surgery and Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Perforated appendicitis commonly results in intra‐abdominal infection requiring prolonged antibiotic therapy. Intraoperative antimicrobial adjuncts are limited, and photodynamic therapy (PDT) may provide a targeted, resistance‐independent approach.

Antimicrobial Cyclic Peptidomimetics

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Singular macromolecular cationic, amphipathic cyclic peptidomimetics with poly(2‐oxazoline)s‐esque backbone structure that undergo self‐assembly in water to form uniform nanoparticles were developed. The cyclic peptidomimetics, which act on bacterial cell membranes, exhibit hydrophobic‐dependent antimicrobial activity and toxicity.

Uncovering Key Characteristics of Antibacterial Peptides through Machine Learning

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Machine‐learning (ML) techniques using random forest classification models revealed key characteristics that predict effective antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) targeting Gram‐negative bacteria, Gram‐positive bacteria, and mycobacteria. The ideal cLogP (<$ < $−6) and net‐charge (≤+4) threshold was the same for all three targets with variations in the ...

Glyco‐Nanogels for Modulating Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilm

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Nanogels presenting α‐galactose and β‐fucose can significantly alter Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm dynamics through their interaction with lectins. Application timing is crucial: pre‐treatment reduces biofilm, while treatment after biofilm initiation increases biomass.
