Retinitis pigmentosa. A mimic of neurologic disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Six patients with various forms of retinitis pigmentosa who were misdiagnosed as having neurologic disease are presented. In five of the patients, visual field defects were misinter-preted as being secondary to a neurologic rather than a retinal problem.

Retinal Changes Induced by Epiretinal Tangential Forces

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
Two kinds of forces are active in vitreoretinal traction diseases: tangential and anterior‐posterior forces. However, tangential forces are less characterized and classified in literature compared to the anterior‐posterior ones. Tangential epiretinal forces are mainly due to anomalous posterior vitreous detachment (PVD), vitreoschisis, vitreopapillary ...

Surgical Interventions in Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension—A Comprehensive Multi‐Center Study of Outcome and the Role of Treatment Indication

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 3, March 2026.
In this multicenter retrospective study of idiopathic intracranial hypertension, only 3.6% of patients required surgery, predominantly for acute visual deterioration. Both cerebrospinal fluid diversion and optic nerve sheath fenestration were effective in improving visual outcomes and resolving papilledema, while headache improvement was limited ...

Unilateral Acute Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy in a Patient with an Already Established Diagnosis of Bilateral Optic Disc Drusen

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmological Medicine, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
Optic disc drusen (ODD) are calcific deposits that form in the optic nerve head secondary to abnormalities in axonal metabolism and degeneration. Anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, central retinal artery, and vein occlusion are among the rare vascular complications of disc drusen.

Case Report of Optic Disc Drusen with Simultaneous Peripapillary Subretinal Hemorrhage and Central Retinal Vein Occlusion

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmological Medicine, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
A 52‐year‐old Chinese gentleman presented with right eye floaters and photopsia over one week. His visual acuities were 20/20 bilaterally. Posterior segment examination showed a right eye swollen optic disc and central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) associated with an area of subretinal hemorrhage adjacent to the optic disc.

A Method for Visualization of Fine Retinal Vascular Pulsation Using Nonmydriatic Fundus Camera Synchronized with Electrocardiogram

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Pulsatile changes in retinal vascular geometry over the cardiac cycle have clinical implication for diagnosis of ocular and systemic vascular diseases. In this study, we report a Vesselness Mapping of Retinal Image Sequence (VMRS) methodology to visualize the vessel pulsation and quantify the pulsatile motions in the cardiac cycle.

Performance of vision language models for optic disc swelling identification on fundus photographs. [PDF]

open access: yesFront Digit Health
IntroductionVision language models (VLMs) combine image analysis capabilities with large language models (LLMs). Because of their multimodal capabilities, VLMs offer a clinical advantage over image classification models for the diagnosis of optic disc ...

A new case of de novo 6q24.2-q25.2 deletion on paternal chromosome 6 with growth hormone deficiency: A twelve-year follow-up and literature review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: Deletions on the distal portion of the long arm of chromosome 6 are relatively uncommon, and only a small number occurs in the paternal copy, causing growth abnormalities. As a result, extensive clinical descriptions are lacking.
