Induced breeding and larval rearing of Surubí, Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum (Linnaeus, 1766), from the Bolivian Amazon

open access: yesAquaculture Research, 2008
Brooders of Surubi (Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum) were caught in the Ichillo River (Bolivian Amazon) and adapted to captivity conditions for 1 year in the facilities of the experimental aquaculture station of ‘El Prado’ (Santa Cruz de la Sierra) under natural temperature and photoperiod conditions.

Intestinal histomorphology in Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum fed bovine colostrum as source of protein and bioactive peptides [PDF]

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2010
Histological responses of the intestine are key for evaluating nutritional value of feed ingredients, since the organ is not only the chief site of feed digestion and nutrient absorption but also plays an important immunological function. Histomorphological alterations were evaluated in the intestine of juvenile striped catfish, Pseudoplatystoma ...

Differential population history in the migratory catfishes Brachyplatystoma flavicans and Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum(Pimelodidae) from the Bolivian Amazon assessed with nuclear and mitochondrial DNA markers

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, 2004
The catfishes Brachyplatystoma flavicans(n = 49) and Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum(n = 69) showed comparable low allozyme diversities (He = 0·012 and 0·009–0·028, respectively), but contrasting PCR-RFLP restriction site mitochondrial DNA diversities (three ...

Occurrence and significance of ovarian and follicular regression in cachara Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum (Linnaeus, 1766): a histology approach [PDF]

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro De Medicina Veterinaria E Zootecnia, 2006
The processes of ovarian regression and follicular atresia which reproduction was not induced by hormone in confined cachara, Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum, were investigated. The macro and microscopic characteristics (oocytes diameter and histology) of the ovaries were described every 20 days, in four stages: initial regression (Rg I = first 20 days ...

Intestinal morphology and histology of the striped catfishPseudoplatystoma fasciatum(Linnaeus, 1766) fed dry diets

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, 2009
This study unveils histological features of the intestinal tract of juvenile striped catfish Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum (Linnaeus, 1776) in three size classes (weight, standard length): I - 36.84 +/- 10.19 g, 14.52 +/- 1.54 cm; II - 59.03 +/- 11.47 g, 17.

Generation, characterisation and applicability of a monoclonal antibody to hybrid surubim catfish Pseudoplatystoma corruscans (Agassiz) Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum (Linnaeus) immunoglobulin

Comparative Clinical Pathology, 2004
Monoclonal antibodies (mAb) against hybrid surubim immunoglobulin (IgM) were produced. Screening, with an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), revealed three probes: PSIg 10, PSIg 13 and PSIg 28 specifically reacting to surubim IgM. No species cross-reactivity was found.

A cytochemical, light and electron microscopic study of the peripheral blood leucocytes of hybrid surubim catfish ( Pseudoplatystoma corruscans x Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum )

Comparative Clinical Pathology, 2003
This paper describes the results of our initial studies with hybrid surubim catfish leucocytes and suggests that the techniques used may have further application. According to size, shape, staining patterns and ultrastructure, five blood leucocyte types were identified in the peripheral blood of surubim: lymphocytes, thrombocytes, monocytes ...

Induced spawning of hatchery-raised Brazilian catfish, cachara Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum (Linnaeus, 1766)

Aquaculture, 2004
In the months of January 2001 and 2002, female cachara Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum were selected during their first and second gonadal maturation (2 years and 7 months old and 3 years and 7 months old, respectively) with an of oocyte diameter of 937.5 Am (82.5% with central nuclei and 17.5% with peripheral nuclei).
