The strength of association between psychological factors and clinical outcome in tendinopathy: A systematic review.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
ObjectiveTendinopathy is often a disabling, and persistent musculoskeletal disorder. Psychological factors appear to play a role in the perpetuation of symptoms and influence recovery in musculoskeletal pain.

Bio‐Derived Polyelectrolyte Additive–Induced Interfacial Ion‐Diffusion Barriers for Nonvolatile Organic Artificial Synapses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sodium alginate regulates interfacial ion transport and retention in electrolyte‐gated synaptic transistors. The carboxylate‐rich polymeric network forms a dynamic interfacial ion‐diffusion barrier that facilitates ion injection during programming while suppressing ion back‐diffusion, thereby stabilizing the electrochemically doped channel state.

Cruel and Usual

open access: yesJournal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
In higher education, student evaluation of teaching (SET) has been under scrutiny for its lack of validity, weak correlation with student learning, and bias toward historically marginalized faculty.

The Psychology of Algorithmic Bias

open access: yes
As the use of AI proliferates, so too does the risk of algorithmic bias—systematic errors in AI systems that discriminate against disadvantaged social groups. Although such biases are widely documented, their psychological foundations are poorly understood.

Operationalization Bias: A Suboptimal Research Practice in Psychology

open access: yes, 2022
The recent replication crisis in psychology has alerted researchers to the presence of suboptimal research practices ― that are not the cases of fraud per se ― such as the practice of stopping data collection or deleting some of the data to attain statistical significance and the tendency to refrain from publishing null results. The suboptimal research

The Equiprobability Bias from a Mathematical and Psychological Perspective

open access: yesAdvances in Cognitive Psychology, 2014
The equiprobability bias (EB) is a tendency to believe that every process in which randomness is involved corresponds to a fair distribution, with equal probabilities for any possible outcome. The EB is known to affect both children and adults, and to increase with probability education. Because it results in probability errors resistant to pedagogical

3D Printed Photon Shield Assembly for Low‐Noise Visual Stimulation During Two‐Photon Imaging in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We present the Photon Shield, an open‐hardware system for low‐noise two‐photon calcium imaging during visual stimulation in mice. Combining a 3D‐printed headplate and rail‐mounted shield substantially reduces stray‐light contamination, as quantitatively verified. Functional validation confirms reliable cortical responses. Open design files enable broad

Auditory–Tactile Congruence for Synthesis of Adaptive Pain Expressions in RoboPatients

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this work, we explore auditory–tactile congruence for synthesizing adaptive vocal pain expressions in robopatients. Using a robopatient platform that integrates vocal pain sounds with palpation forces, we conducted 7680 trials across 20 participants.

The construct equivalence and item bias of the pib/SpEEx conceptualisation-ability test for members of five language groups in South Africa

open access: yesSA Journal of Industrial Psychology, 2008
This study’s objective was to determine whether the Potential Index Batteries/Situation Specific Evaluation Expert (PIB/SpEEx) conceptualisation (100) ability test displays construct equivalence and item bias for members of five selected language groups ...
