Single human fingertip mechanoreceptive afferents simultaneously encode multidimensional aspects of touch

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Mechanoreceptors in the fingertip skin allow us to explore objects and to feel a vast range of textures. We recorded responses from individual low‐threshold mechanoreceptive afferents in humans while dynamic stimuli were swept across their receptive fields, systematically varying force, velocity and spatial period.

The psychophysics of order and anisotropy: Comment on Riemer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Riemer’s recent paper on the perception of time discusses a neglected yet important topic in the psychological literature: the consequences for psychology (and psychophysics) from the ‘anisotropy’ of time.

Low‐threshold cutaneous mechanoreceptors on the foot sole have enhanced sensitivity when skin temperature is elevated

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Schematic illustration of microneurography recordings used to examine the effects of local skin heating on cutaneous mechanoreceptor responses in the human foot (left panel). A microelectrode inserted into a peripheral nerve records single‐unit activity from tactile afferent fibres while controlled mechanical stimuli are applied ...

Psychophysical assessment of face perception deficits in adults with amblyopia through top-down and bottom-up visual processing pathways

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience
PurposeThis study aims to investigate face perception ability in adult patients with amblyopia.MethodsWe conducted two psychophysical experiments. The Face-detection task involved 25 amblyopic patients and 25 healthy controls, using face stimulation at 6

Transparent Motion Perception as Detection of Unbalanced Motion Signals. I. Psychophysics

open access: yes, 1994
this article some other nontransparent displays that cannot be explained this way. Motion transparency is also a challenging problem from the computational point of view, because most machine vision algorithms have difficulties with it.

Achieving Constant Hazard Rate in Psychophysics Experiments

open access: yes
In psychophysics, it is sometimes desirable for the temporal onset of an event to be unpredictable, e.g. to control possible effects of expectation and temporal attention in behavioral or neural data.

Study on Preferred Memory Color Based on Printed Images

open access: yesColor Research &Application, Volume 51, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
This graphical image illustrates the relationship between color‐shift directions in the a*b*$$ {a}^{\ast }{b}^{\ast } $$ plane and CMYK ink adjustments. Through a systematic comparison of different ink adjustment methods and preference evaluation experiments conducted using eight representative memory colors images, this study proposed a practical ink ...

Near Phoria and Near Point of Convergence Parameters in Children With Hearing and Speech Impairment: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports
Background and Aims Children with hearing and speech impairment are reported to have a higher prevalence of refractive errors and amblyopia. Most studies conducted previously have not primarily concentrated on the binocular vision aspects of near vision ...
