Current Opinion in Pharmacology, 2008Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) are common conditions diagnosed by established symptom-based criteria. Dysregulation of the brain-gut axis is emerging as the primary pathophysiologic mechanism for FGIDs; this opens avenues for newer treatment modalities.
