Gametogenesis and fertilization in Pteridium

Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 1976
The principal events in spermatogenesis, in particular those occurring in the final stage in which the isodiametric spermatocyte is transformed into the helical spermatozoid, are described. The origin of the blepharoplast remains obscure, but its subsequent development is now well known. Firm information is still lacking concerning the manner of growth

The movements of spermatozoa of bracken (Pteridium aquilinum)

Experimental Cell Research, 1954
Abstract 1. 1. The movement of bracken sperms in tap water is random, the mean square displacement being proportional to the time. 2. 2. It is known that when sperms arrive at the mucilage at the necks of mature archegonia they become immobilised; it has been found in the present work that this immobilisation is irreversible. 3. 3. Sperms

Pteridium aquilinum

2000
Abstract Bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum) is a plant (family Polydodiaceae) containing thiaminase I; this enzyme causes thiamine and thiamine diphosphate depletion. Ingestion of the fern by livestock causes significant neurotoxicity, which is dependent on plant part, season, maturity of the plant, and rainfall.
