Dietary Overlap of Sympatric Polyphagous Alpine Grasshoppers Includes Invasive Plant Species. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
The diets of three sympatric grasshopper species were compared using mandible morphological analysis, microhistological examination, and DNA metabarcoding of gut contents. Although mandible morphology differed across species and sexes, dietary divergence was not evident.

Source height and contact with terrestrial soil drive transplanted epiphyte performance

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 111, Issue 11, Page 2388-2400, November 2023., 2023
Tropical vascular epiphytes, such as this orchid Peristeria pendula, performed worse when experimentally transplanted to new substrates in contact with terrestrial soil, versus substrates just above the soil surface. The results are some of the first empirical data supporting the epiphyte enemy escape hypothesis.

TOM1 family conservation within the plant kingdom for tobacco mosaic virus accumulation

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 24, Issue 11, Page 1385-1399, November 2023., 2023
The TOM1 family has an ancient origin, and its ability to promote tobacco mosaic virus multiplication and interact with other components of the virus replication complex is highly conserved in the plant kingdom. Abstract The susceptibility factor TOBAMOVIRUS MULTIPLICATION 1 (TOM1) is required for efficient multiplication of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV).
