Six Labeobarbus species occur in the Middle Luhoho, a left‐bank affluent of the Lowa River, including two chiselmouth species (Labeobarbus brauni, L. longidorsalis) and three rubberlip species (L. caudovittatus, L. longifilis, L. paucisquamatus), as well as an intermediate phenotype referred to as the smiling phenotype.

Through a comprehensive review of the literature and analyses of the molecular evolution and comparative genetics of ROS‐regulated proteins and Shaker‐type K+ channels, we propose that ROS‐regulated proteins are essential players in response to and adaptation to abiotic stresses in green plants.
