Similar understorey structure in spite of edaphic and floristic dissimilarity in Amazonian forests [PDF]

open access: yesActa Amazonica, 2015
Forest structure determines light availability for understorey plants. The structure of lowland Amazonian forests is known to vary over long edaphic gradients, but whether more subtle edaphic variation also affects forest structure has not beenresolved ...

Epiphytic biomass of a tropical montane forest varies with topography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The spatial heterogeneity of tropical forest epiphytes has rarely been quantified in terms of biomass. In particular, the effect of topographic variation on epiphyte biomass is poorly known, although forests on ridges and ravines can differ drastically ...

Response of Fecal Bacteria and Fungi to Tannin‐Rich Diets in Sika Deer (Cervus nippon): Evidence from Both Feeding Experiments and Field Investigations

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Feeding with tannin‐rich diets altered the fecal microbial composition and increased the relative abundance of tannin‐degrading microbes. We hypothesize that fecal bacteria and fungi may play important roles in helping herbivores adapt to tannin‐rich diets but respond to different tannin concentrations varies.

Influence of Microclimatic Variations on Morphological Traits of Ferns in Urban Forests of Central Veracruz, Mexico

open access: yesPlants
Urban forests are remnants of forest habitats within urban areas. Their structural alterations create stressful microclimatic conditions that can influence the morphology of sensitive plants, such as ferns.

Plants and Insect Eggs: First Report of a Katydid Using a Fern as Host for Oviposition

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Botany, Volume 64, Issue 1, March 2026.
Ferns are the second most diverse lineage of vascular plants worldwide and are particularly abundant in tropical forests. However, the ecological significance of such remarkable diversity has been often underestimated. In this article, we report for the first time the observation of ferns, specifically Polytaenium cajenense (Desv.) Benedict ...
