Application of RNA silencing to plant disease resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
To reduce the losses caused by plant pathogens, plant biologists have adopted numerous methods to engineer resistant plants. Among them, RNA silencing-based resistance has been a powerful tool that has been used to engineer resistant crops during the ...

Sense transgene-induced post-transcriptional gene silencing in tobacco compromises the splicing of endogenous counterpart genes.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Sense transgene-induced post-transcriptional gene silencing (S-PTGS) is thought to be a type of RNA silencing in which ARGONAUTE1 directs the small interfering RNA (siRNA)-mediated cleavage of a target mRNA in the cytoplasm.

Establishment and validation of a hair fall atlas for Chinese men based on trichoscopy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
A new hair fall atlas with 7 scales is established and validated and ready to publish as a new methodology. We observed good consistency between the dermatologists' grading (PCC >0.8), and a strong correlation shown between clinical scores and hair fall attributes based on image analysis (|p| > 0.8).

Vicarious PTG after Fireworks Trauma

open access: yesPsychology, 2017
Studies about fireworks-related trauma are scarce. Research on other traumas indicates not only the negative reactions and consequences, but also some important positive experiences. This falls within the remit of post-traumatic growth. More complicated may be the possibility of growth through trauma experienced by another person.

Crude extracts of bacterially expressed dsRNA can be used to protect plants against virus infections [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Background Double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) is a potent initiator of gene silencing in a diverse group of organisms that includes plants, Caenorhabditis elegans, Drosophila and mammals.

Functional Characterisation of HAIRPLUS (NtHAP) Genes Involved in Trichome Development and Specialised Metabolism of Tobacco

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plant glandular trichomes are specialised epidermal structures capable of synthesising, storing and secreting numerous varieties of secondary metabolites in different classes and are central to plant defence and the biosynthesis of high‐value metabolites.

Cucumber mosaic virus Infection Transiently Breaks dsRNA-Induced Transgenic Immunity to Potato virus Y in Tobacco

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2003
Post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS), an intrinsic plant defense mechanism, can be efficiently triggered by double stranded (ds)RNA-producing transgenes and can provide high level virus resistance by specific targeting of cognate viral RNA.

A novel potential role of pituitary gonadotropins in the pathogenesis of human colorectal cancer. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of death in the western world, and its incidence increases with patient age. It is also known that with age there occur changes in the levels of certain hormones, including an increase in the secretion of ...

Revisiting Robustness in Priced Timed Games [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Priced timed games are optimal-cost reachability games played between two players---the controller and the environment---by moving a token along the edges of infinite graphs of configurations of priced timed automata.
