Prognostic Factors for PTLD

2010
Poor prognostic factors in the traditional non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL), such as poor performance status, multifocal disease, and increased age, are also poor prognostic factors in posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD). Rituximab has proven efficacy in CD-20 positive PTLD and has altered the management and prognosis of this disease.

Management of PTLD After HSCT

2021
Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLDs) are life-threatening complications after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), often associated to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. Rituximab, reduction of immunosuppression, and EBV-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) therapy are recommended as first-line therapy, while unselected ...

Host Genetic Mutations and Expression Analyses in PTLD

2021
This chapter focusses upon the host genetic lesions seen in PTLD, an area that has been relatively under-investigated compared to viral oncogenesis. Observations include mutations in DNA mismatch repair mechanisms, aberrant somatic hypermutation and mutations of proto-oncogenes.

EBV Biology in the Pathogenesis of PTLD

2021
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous, yet perplexing, gammaherpesvirus. Primary infection with EBV can have widely diverse outcomes ranging from asymptomatic infection to self-resolving infectious mononucleosis, to the development of EBV-associated malignancies including Burkitt lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and B cell ...

Evolution of PTLD following renal transplantation in a child

Pediatric Transplantation, 2009
Abstract:  We report the case of an eight‐yr‐old child with early onset PTLD half a year after renal transplantation. The patient developed gastrointestinal pain and bowel biopsies revealed imposing lymphoid infiltrates with small spots of lymphoid blasts in the colonic mucosa.

Isolated pleural PTLD after cardiac transplantation

Cardiovascular Pathology, 2002
PREAMBLE: Epstein-Barr virus infection (EBV) and immunosuppression promote emergence of posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD) in patients undergoing organ transplantation. We report a case of PTLD confined to the pleura. The patient was a 62-year-old male who had undergone cardiac transplant in 1993 for ischemic heart disease.

Treatment of PTLD

2010
No therapies are based on data from randomized clinical trials Current outcomes are suboptimal, both in adults and children Death is most common in the first year after diagnosis Success of therapy must include evaluation of allograft outcomes Several new therapies have emerged over the last decade including monoclonal antibody ...

Epidemiology of PTLD After SOT

2021
PTLD is a relatively rare but important and feared complication of transplantation. Several different types of risk factors (host, infectious, transplant, immunosuppression) are associated with PTLD development. Epstein-Barr virus infection is the single most important risk factor. PTLD is a significant cause of earlier graft loss and added mortality.

T‐cell PTLD presenting as acalculous cholecystitis

Pediatric Transplantation, 2008
Abstract:  We report a five‐yr‐old child, presenting three yr after heart transplant with acalculous cholecystitis. Histology revealed EBV negative T‐cell PTLD. The disease involved the gallbladder, liver, lungs, and mesenteric lymph nodes. He was treated with chemotherapy, went into remission, but relapsed after 11 months and died.
