Current and Emerging Pharmacologic Therapies for Diabetic Retinopathy

open access: yesPharmacotherapy: The Journal of Human Pharmacology and Drug Therapy, Volume 46, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Diabetic retinopathy, a prevalent microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus, is a leading cause of blindness among adults in developed countries. Risk factors include prolonged duration of diabetes, elevated glycosylated hemoglobin levels, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, with rapid glucose reduction also increasing risk for developing ...

Enzyme‐Powered DNA Origami Nanostructures for Enhanced Mucosal Diffusion

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2026.
Single‐particle tracking reveals how DNA origami navigates mucus. Bare structures show limited diffusion, while enzyme‐functionalized nanostructures exhibit enhanced mobility. Symmetrically arranged urease creates uniform pH gradients for smooth propulsion, whereas asymmetrically placed catalase drives bubble‐mediated motion.

Targeting MCL‐1 and MAPK overcomes venetoclax resistance in FLT3‐ITD‐positive AML cells harbouring activating PTPN11 (SHP‐2) mutations

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, Volume 208, Issue 3, Page 905-915, March 2026.
Summary Venetoclax (VEN)‐based therapies have improved the treatment of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML); however, the emergence of resistance remains a major limitation. Mutations in protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) non‐receptor type 11 (PTPN11) and FMS like tyrosine kinase 3 with internal tandem duplication (FLT3‐ITD) are common in resistant patients ...

Protein tyrosine phosphatases as emerging targets for cancer immunotherapy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 6, Page 1233-1249, March 2026.
Abstract Contemporary strategies in cancer immunotherapy, despite remarkable success, remain constrained by inherent limitations such as suboptimal patient responses, the emergence of drug resistance, and the manifestation of pronounced adverse effects. Consequently, the need for alternative strategies for immunotherapy becomes clear.

Leishmania donovani's protein tyrosine phosphatases interact with DUF21 and respond to environmental magnesium

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 6, Page 1754-1770, March 2026.
The Leishmania phosphatase PTP1, and possibly the genetically similar PTP2, interacts with the Leishmania transmembrane protein DUF21. When both ptp1 and ptp2 are knocked out of Leishmania (LdΔPTP1/2), the parasite can no longer survive without magnesium in vitro and has reduced viability in the host macrophage. Conversely, in duf21 knockout (LdΔDUF21),

Wogonin Mitigates Depression by Inhibiting TNF‐α/TNFR1/CXCL1 Signalling‐Mediated Astrocyte Activation

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 30, Issue 6, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Wogonin exhibits notable anti‐inflammatory and neuroprotective effects. Current study aimed to investigate the antidepressant potential of wogonin and its underlying mechanisms through in vitro and in vivo experiments. In vitro, wogonin attenuated lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐induced astrocyte activation.
