Deep learning auto‐contouring of target and organs‐at‐risk on post‐catheter implant CT images for prostate HDR brachytherapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Background Accurate delineation of the prostate and surrounding organs‐at‐risk (OARs) is essential for HDR prostate brachytherapy. Manual contouring on post‐catheter CT images is time‐consuming and prone to variability due to artifacts and anatomical deformation from the implanted brachytherapy catheters.

A rule‐based, feedback‐driven framework for fully automated prostate VMAT planning

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Background Manual prostate volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) planning in Elekta Monaco is complex, time‐intensive, and prone to planner variability. Existing automation methods, such as knowledge‐based planning (KBP) and cloud‐based solutions often rely on external models rather than Monaco's native optimization.

On evaluation methods for post-processing of PTV

open access: yesJournal of the Visualization Society of Japan, 2000
Recently, many researchers propose interpolation methods for PTV (Particle Tracking Velocimetry) data because the spatial distribution of physical quantities can not be directly obtained by PTV. These interpolation methods use mathematical or physical logic-based algorithms, and their accuracy are evaluated by several physical quantities.

Dosimetric and radiobiological evaluations as well as technical aspects of left breast treatment employing DIBH with SGRT in radiotherapy with IMRT step and shoot, IMRT Dynamic MLC and VMAT

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Background Treatment of the left breast using deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH), combined with surface guided radiotherapy (SGRT), has emerged as the standard for reducing the dose to the heart, the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD), and the ipsilateral lung.

Dynamic modulated arc therapy (DMAT): A time‐aware, modulation‐steered optimization framework for next‐generation radiotherapy delivery

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Background Conventional VMAT optimization largely treats delivery time and deliverability as emergent properties of simplified, control‐point‐centric models that often ignore finite acceleration and other dynamic limits. As modern linacs continue to increase maximum axis speeds and dose rates, there is a growing need for a planning paradigm ...

Evaluation of AI‐based segmentation and synthetic CT generation for MRI‐only prostate radiotherapy planning

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Background There is an increasing use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for segmentation of target volumes and organs at risk due to superior soft tissue contrast compared to computed tomography (CT). Conventional workflows require CT‐MRI registration, introducing geometric uncertainty that can propagate to dose delivery.

Beam geometry optimization and convergence mode evaluation for knowledge‐based planning of hippocampal avoidance whole‐brain radiotherapy: A cross‐platform study with quantitative scorecard assessment

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Background Hippocampal avoidance whole‐brain radiotherapy (HA‐WBRT) is used to treat brain metastases while preserving cognitive function by sparing the hippocampi. Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) is commonly used due to its ability to generate conformal dose distributions.

Robust optimization of catheter positions and dwell times for HDR prostate brachytherapy

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 53, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Background HDR prostate brachytherapy plans are sensitive to catheter placement uncertainty, as discrepancies between planned and delivered catheter positions can degrade target coverage and increase organ at risk dose. Current inverse planning methods optimize dwell times for a fixed implant geometry and do not account for geometric ...

On the Ptv Homogeneity Objective in the Era of Photon Advanced Dose Calculation Algorithms: Bridging Robust and Ptv-Based Planning

open access: yesRadiotherapy and Oncology
The planning target volume (PTV) homogeneity objective was developed for previous-generation dose calculation algorithms. Advanced algorithms report doses to medium-in-medium (Dm,m) and their values depend on the medium considered, breaking the link between uniform irradiation and dose homogeneity.
