The Regulation of Pubertal Growth [PDF]

open access: yesHormone Research in Paediatrics, 2003
To understand the regulation of pubertal growth, it is important to understand the present concept of the control of the onset of puberty, the change in secretion of sex steroids during puberty, and the effects of these various factors upon the production and action of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor (IGF).

The role of puberty on physical and brain development: A longitudinal study in male Rhesus Macaques

open access: yesDevelopmental Cognitive Neuroscience, 2023
This study examined the role of male pubertal maturation on physical growth and development of neurocircuits that regulate stress, emotional and cognitive control using a translational nonhuman primate model.

A new type of pubertal height reference based on growth aligned for onset of pubertal growth

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2020
Abstract Objectives Growth references of today traditionally describe growth in relation to chronological age. Despite the broad variation in age of pubertal maturation, references related to biological age are lacking.

Pre-pubertal growth and cognitive function [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood, 2005
British longitudinal data were used to investigate the association of heights at 22 months and 5 years with a digit recall test at age 10 years. Greater height, particularly at 5 years, was associated with higher scores, suggesting that some exposures influence both growth and capability for cognitive function.

The Fourth Cervical Vertebra Anterior and Posterior Body Height Projections (Vba) for the Assessment of Pubertal Growth Spurt

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
This paper aims to propose a statistical model to assess pubertal growth spurt using the ratio of the anterior height projection to the posterior (Vba) of the fourth cervical vertebra body (C4) on cephalograms and to calculate the residual proportion of ...

Comparison of Body Height and Mandibular Length Between Caucasian and Japanese Children

open access: yesAustralasian Orthodontic Journal, 1993
This study compared pubertal growth of Japanese males and females with that of Caucasian children matched by age and gender. Total body height and mandibular length were compared between the two groups.

Pubertal Growth in Chronic Renal Failure [PDF]

open access: yesPediatric Research, 1990
We evaluated the growth records of 15 boys and 14 girls who developed end-stage renal failure before or during puberty and who were regularly followed from the onset to the end of their pubertal growth spurt. Height data were smoothed by using the kernel estimation method.

Update on statural growth and pubertal development in obese children

open access: yesPediatric Reports, 2012
Childhood obesity is a growing and alarming problem, associated with several short-term and long-term metabolic and cardiovascular complications. In addition, it has also been suggested that excess adiposity during childhood influences growth and ...

Epigenetic age acceleration is associated with speed of pubertal growth but not age of pubertal onset. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep
AbstractUsing data from a longitudinal cohort of children, we examined whether epigenetic age acceleration (EAA) was associated with pubertal growth and whether these associations were mediated by adiposity. We examined associations between EAA at approximately 10 years of age with pubertal growth metrics, including age at peak height velocity (PHV ...
