Gini in a Bottleneck: Sparse Molecular Representations for Graph Convolutional Neural Networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Due to the nature of deep learning approaches, it is inherently difficult to understand which aspects of a molecular graph drive the predictions of the network. As a mitigation strategy, we constrain certain weights in a multi-task graph convolutional neural network according to the Gini index to maximize the "inequality" of the learned representations.

Bayesian Learning of Causal Relationships for System Reliability [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Causal theory is now widely developed with many applications to medicine and public health. However within the discipline of reliability, although causation is a key concept in this field, there has been much less theoretical attention. In this paper, we will demonstrate how some aspects of established causal methodology can be translated via trees ...

Military Service Roles and ALS Among Veterans: A Matched Case–Control Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While military service is an established risk factor for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), it remains unclear whether this association is linked to combat. We conducted a matched case–control study comparing 191 ALS patients who were veterans of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) with known military service type and 1910 matched controls. The

Effectiveness of a Telephone‐Delivered Walk With Ease Program on Arthritis‐Related Symptoms, Function, and Activity: A Randomized Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Walk With Ease (WWE) is a six‐week arthritis‐appropriate evidence‐based physical activity program traditionally offered in a face‐to‐face format. Because many populations encounter participation barriers to in‐person programs, WWE was modified for telephone delivery (WWE‐T).
