A Skull Bone Marrow‐to‐Brain Axis Links Osteoblastic Activity to Myeloid Cell Trafficking, Cerebral Blood Flow, and Cognition in Alzheimer's Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that Alzheimer's disease–linked APP expression in bone‐forming cells drives skull bone marrow remodeling and alters its vascular connections to the brain. These changes disrupt immune cell trafficking, cerebral blood flow, and cognition. Targeting bone marrow macrophages restores brain function, highlighting a previously unrecognized

GOVERNMENT EXPENDITURES IN CHINA AND TAIWAN: DO THEY FOLLOW WAGNER¡¯S LAW? [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper tests Wagner¡¯s Law for China and Taiwan, using annual time series data covering the period 1979-2002. To estimate the long-run relationship between government expenditures and output, we use a robust estimation method known as the Bounds Test

Expenditure Rules: Limiting the Level or the Variation of Public Expenditure?

open access: yesEconomies
The main goal of the first-generation expenditure rules was to ensure fiscal discipline: preserving a sound fiscal framework and public debt sustainability. Regarding this goal, analytically as well as empirically, limiting the share of public expenditure in GDP would be more appropriate in case of weak potential economic growth or if the public ...

Topology‐Aware Deep Learning on Higher‐Order Structures for Drug Response Prediction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present TopDr, a topology‐aware deep learning framework that encodes both drugs and cell lines as multiscale simplicial complexes, capturing interactions at the 0‐, 1‐, and 2‐simplex levels. By jointly integrating local higher‐order neighborhoods and global topological structures, TopDr generates enriched representations for sensitivity prediction ...

Efficient Direct Recycling of Spent Batteries: Integrated Lithiation and Delamination

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An integrated process for the delamination and relithiation of spent cathodes, LixNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 and LixFePO4, under open‐air conditions is proposed. The transition‐metal (Ni) oxidation state in the cathode is reduced by the oxidation of diethylene glycol, facilitating relithiation. Glycol aldehyde formation induces 100% electrode delamination.

The combined incidence of taxes and public expenditures in the Philippines [PDF]

open access: yes
Incidence studies of fiscal policy in developing countries typically examine either the distribution of tax burdens or the incidence of public expenditures. But the central issue for policymakers is the combined or net incidence of fiscal activities. One

Automated Extraction of Multicomponent Alloy Data Using Large Language Models for Sustainable Design

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A large language model (LLM) based pipeline is developed to automatically extract a comprehensive and accurate multicomponent alloy database from literature corpus. The extracted dataset is integrated with sustainability indicators to identify potential alloys that outperform existing industrial benchmark materials in terms of both performance and ...

Tax Expenditures, the Size and Efficiency of Government, and Implications for Budget Reform [PDF]

open access: yes
One possible explanation for the difficulty in controlling the budget is that a major component of spending —tax expenditures—receives privileged status. It is treated as tax cuts rather than spending.
